New to my little family of knives is the Helle jegermester. I purchased it because I wanted a thin knife with a little longer blade for some possible big game skinning (Elk camp) and I often find that for camp cook duties I wish I had my Green River butcher knife. I think the Jegermester will fit the bill. Haven't been able to put it to much use yet, but I will soon.

Initial impressions are; shaving sharp out of the box, very nice figure to the curly birch handle, and a high polish to the blade. F&F as on most Helle knives is top notch.

Bought if from Ragnar of course. Email said it was shipped on Sat, and in my mail box today. All hail RAGNAR.:thumbup::thumbup:

9 3/4" overall. 5 1/4" Sandvik 12C27 stainless drop point blade.
Curly birch handle.
.098" thick.

My only complaint is the sheath does not have a plastic liner. I can fix this or course, but all the other Helle knives I have owned had the liner from the factory.

Some pics, more to follow.:D

Jegermester looks really nice. I've got a Fjellkniven with a similar handle, and your hand never seems to tire from use. I wasn't aware the Helle put liners in their sheaths, the Fjell didn't come with one...

Thanks for the pics tarmix.

A Helle is high on my list of upcoming purchases. I just couldn't decide between this one and The Knife of Honour. I like the longer blade on the jegermester, but TKOH has more of a "guard" which might be helpful for someone as accident prone as myself.
Too bad the thickness isn't listed for TKOH.

I really like a lot of the Helle stuff, I just can't dig on stainless though. :(

Gorgeous blade though, looks like a cool user.

You know I was in the same (anti stainless) boat as you not to long ago. I then bought and used a Mora (blue 510, can't remember the #) for awhile. I kept it in my tackle box, and I'm here to tell ya, it was a great steel. Held an edge well, and easy to touch up.

I then had the please of using a friends BRKT (I think it was the Mini Canadian) in 12C27. Same experience.

After that I stopped giving 12C27 a bad rap, and used it with confidence.

Give is a shot SP, you might be surprised.;)

Yeah, the stuff from BRKT, and Fallkniven, are about the only ones that really tempt me. I never hear a bad word about them and don't think I'll hesitate to give them a shot down the line.
