Wondering if anyone has any experience with the Helle knife making blades? They seem pretty cheap in comparison to the finished, commercially available knives, was wondering if there's any difference in the blade properties?

I find this ironic because I love Helle factory blades (some of the sharpest factory knives I've ever had) but always find their handles wanting...often severely.

I have both. They are exactly the same.

Finished kives cost a lot more because they require human labor to build, and Scandinavian pay scales are much higher than here, then figure-in the cost to ship a boxed knife v. a flat stack of just blades.

Helle blades are exceptional in quality, sharpness and edge holding abilities.

You can also look at Lauri brand of blades, but Helle are nicer in finish.

Yeah that's pretty cool, I've heard great things about them so when I saw the blades for $20 I had to question it. I actually prefer the idea of making my own handle too, done a lot of carving making my own fishing lures and whatnot so this is perfect.

I'll look into the Lauri blades as well, if all goes well I plan on making more than 1. Thanks.
