Hey all,I saw a Lapland in an "antique mall" the other day & thought about getting it,($60)but thought I'd get some opinions from folks that have one or had one.
It is in great shape with some staining/patina on the blade & the handle is good and solid as is the sheath.
I like to baton & was wondering if it would stand up to some occasional pounding through 4" or so pieces for fire prep.
Any thoughts would be appreciated thanks,
Myke

I have a helle laplander in stainless, 8.5 in blade. Has been a pretty good knife for me, only batonned 3 or 4 times but as a light bramble, trail clearer.
also use it for lopping salmon heads and cutting steaks etc, makes a pretty good butcher knife.

For occasional hard use I can't see it failing.

Thanks Brad,I guess butchering is what it excells at.
After going back & having another look I decided to pass on it for now.
