I have seen and heard many mixed reviews on quality control on Helle knives lately.

I was really keen on a Helle Nord. I’m interested in 14c28n and Scandi grind. As I am very content with my Casstrom SFK No 10. I’m think Helle Nord, for a similar but slightly bigger beefier blade, for well, bigger tasks.

But I’m hearing about guys unboxing some cases of mismatched handles, bent blades, and blades with significant imperfections that needed to many hours on the stones to repair right from the factory. I still consider myself an amateur knife enthusiast with basic but not great sharpening skill.

So I’d like to hear honest no bull, actual experiences of both unboxing, and sharpening this beast.

I havnt discovered this, I only bought one nord back then but plenty of other helle knives, I went sort of crazy a few years back and bought about 9 helle knives in a 2 week period and couldn't fault one. But, my experience.

B Bluecollardude if I were to buy one, it would be from Ragweed Forge. They have a good track record for checking on the products that leave their doors and a very good return policy with quick turnaround. They will also communicate with you about any concern you may have before you place your order.
The owner is a nice guy, had a couple of lengthy talks with him when buying from his store over ebay

Helle makes good knives. You should have no problems.
I remember (the late) Ragnar telling me that the Norwegians made the nicest Scandinavian knives, as they were more concerned with aesthetics than the Finns and Swedes as a rule on the production pieces. Owning several of each, I'd say he was probably on to something. LOL.

I like the Helle knives I've owned.

Where are you hearing about these things? YouTube? You can hear all sorts of baloney about almost any knife on that source.
I've not seen any threads about such issues here.

Thank you all for your replies. I appreciate the feedback. Does anybody have a good stone recommendation for out in the brush. I know about the DC4/CC4 by Fallkniven. Again, heard some YT videos saying the DC4 diamond side wore out after only a couple of months of use. I realize this has a lot to do with technique and steel of blade used… hence why I am asking for recommendations for stones for 14c28n and specifically in the field.

I gifted a Helle Eggen to my younger brother for Christmas some years back. I have not heard any complaints from him, but he is not so much of a knife guy - appreciated the materials and workmanship - to render meaningful judgement. Could be he just uses it for gardening tasks.
