I picked up a Helle Viking about two months ago. In spite of being really underwhelmed by the rest of the Helle lineup, I really love this blade. The handle is nothing to write home about, but it's functional and is in keeping with the inspiration of the knife. It is a great wood-working tool, and general purpose knife.

I noticed that they are now selling the Viking blades by themselves. Has anyone taken one of these blades and made their own handle, yet? I find the rough look of the blade really appealing, and thought a wrought iron bolster and end-cap with an antique ivory micarta or corian handle would look cool, especially with some scrimshaw work on the handle.

I'm thinking about giving it a try and wanted some inspiration before I ordered the blade. Anyone worked with one of these, yet?

Thanks

Yes, I've made several knives using the Helle Viking blades. Love the blade, laminated, takes a Helleofa edge :-) Sorry, but I don't have posting privileges or I'd show them. Some were complex, multiwood with metal spacers and a brass or nickle silver ferrule; some were just with plain wood (mostly walnut) with same type ferrules. I used Ramakko sheaths which I stained and/or modified to "swinger" type for all of them.

Any chance you could email me some pictures? My email address: tfd45acp@comcast.net

I hope it's okay to make such a request on the forum. Just want to see some pics for ideas.
