Hello, and thank you in advance for any help and consideration into this matter. This knife was found in my grandfathers hunting and fishing gear and he’s been dead for 26 years. And he hadn’t gone fishing in at least 20 years before that or hunting for that matter. The blade is thick it’s really heavy the handle I’ve never seen before I will post some pictures if possible again I thank you in advance I hope I’m not breaking any rules by asking this question.

Welcome to Bladeforums. You're not breaking any rules.

I don't recognize the blade, but the handle looks like ancient masking tape, or maybe a piece of leather that was then wrapped with some kind of tape. Either way I don't believe it is original to the knife.

Any markings? Dimensions?
The handle is a cheepo replacement for what was probably stacked leather that fell apart. Looks like its wrapped in some sort of tape....

This was a very common pattern of hunting knife in Europe and North America in the early 1900s to 1950s. Many big and small manufacturers or forges had something like this their catalogues. Without marking, it is hard to pinpoint its origin.

It’s like some kind of mummified skin/ leather.
At first I thought it was a tobacco leaf.

as far as markings no I couldn’t find anything and I looked meticulously. And the leathery skin like handle seems to have shrunken up and mummified itself because there’s a huge gap on the bottom piece of brass on the handle between the leather or whatever skin this is. Seriously I thought it was a tobacco leaf when I first got it but it’s been sitting in a box for at least 46 years that we know of and God knows how long before that.

It’s definitely got a Hardy blade. It’s thick and it’s heavy and it’s actually pretty sharp considering how thick it is but yes no markings it’s definitely a curiosity. I got that in a whole bunch of vintage little pocket knives. Unfortunately Grandma sold the bulk of his pocket knifes and brass buckles not long after he died but she didn’t find these. I’m sure the good stuff was in the shoeboxes full that she sold for like two dollars a box, vintage pocket knives.

That's a homemade / handmade knife. The brazed joint isn't seen on factory stuff. The blade looks inspired by the military knives of the WWII- 1950's. Handle looks like worn out grip tape of the type they use on golf clubs, racquets, etc....

It feels good in the hand and it’s nice and heavy I wouldn’t say balanced but heavy thick blade and I swear I want to cut a piece of this handle off and burn it and see if it smells like tobacco LOL

It appears to be a cigar handled bowie hunter
I wonder if tobacco leaf would last that long in this condition to be some type of hide I don’t know like I said I feel like cutting a sliver off and burning it just to see if it smells like tobacco rule that out. I don’t know what it is but I’m very interested in it. It was my grandfathers so there’s Gotta be a story behind it because it was put in a special place where grandma didn’t even find it when he died in definitely sturdy. But I do like the title you gave it.

No no type of markings it’s 10 1/4” in total length. The blade is 6” The width of the blade is 1 1/4 inches are in. I’m terrible at measuring and that’s pretty bad for a handyman but trying to feel the thickness of the blade the little High Point in the center that runs the length of the blade is approximately a quarter inch thick

Looks like some sort of tape, or maybe thin rawhide, wrapped over a padded core....

OK one more question I feel so terrible asking questions like this I feel like an idiot. He asked me about guitars I probably know the answer but with knives which I find very interesting sadly I’m a little bit lost. As far as a makers mark that’s all I can seem to find on this one little knife. The other side of the blade has some scribble that looks like it was stamped badly.
