Either it came with scratches under the grease and im noticing them more every time I look at it.
Or every time I draw the blade and sheath it, the sheath scratches it more. Its a beautiful blade and I just got it yest.
I haven't used it yet, I just been looking at it and checking it out and its scratched up pretty good. Is that normal?

The brass guard is scratched up on one side. I think it might be used? I got it from Walmart online.

CS secur-ex sheaths that come with several large models are known to scratch the blade in some instances. I don't know if there is a solution other than to buy an after market sheath, either leather or kydex, or have the blade coated. I had my 01 Trail Master ceracoated. But if your Traim Master came with scratches on the brass guard there's no excuse for that and I would have Walmart replace it.

What kind of scratch is on the brass guard? The four little tabs on the inside of the lip of the secure ex sheath will scratch the brass guard. There would be one to four scratches going the same direction as the blade in that case. I think that can be removed with flitz metal polish or a brass cleaner, although I haven't tried myself.

My Cold Steel secure ex sheaths don't seem to scratch the blades, only the leather ones seem to scratch. But if you got a knife with good, symmetric grinds and no fit or finish issues other than the scratches, I would just keep the knife. If you return it for an exchange, you could get something worse back. And if you're going to use the knife, it'll be scratched up pretty good after awhile, so don't sweat it.

If you intend to keep a knife for collecting purposes only, then you should never insert it into the sheath, as you never know if the sheath will scratch it up.

Secure Ex looks like fiber reinforced nylon which can dull the edge. I would expect more potential damage to a blade from this.

I plan on using it. But I wasnt going to beat it up. I reckon ill try and get some sandpaper in their and knock off whats rubbing some. Or look at getting a custom sheath.

I'm currently having the same problem with a brand new 0-1 Laredo Bowie. There are two scratches on the left side of the blade about four inches in length about an inch apart. It gets worse every time the knife is drawn from or reinserted in the sheath. You can feel a slight drag and even hear a scraping sound when drawing the knife. I looked inside the sheath with a flashlight and can see no burs or grit. This is only affecting the left side, right side is smooth as silk, no dragging or scratching whatsoever!

I own many Cold Steel knives with Secure-Ex sheaths and this is the first time this has ever happened.

I was considering doing the same thing. Maybe wrapping the sand paper around a ruler or something similar since I can't fit hand or fingers in the sheath. Let me know results and method used if you do this. My other question would be what to use to get scratches off of blade?

Ive been forcing sandpaper down the sheath and ive used other knives and cardboard to get it in there. I got some of the burs off but its still scratching my blade.
My blade and guard are all scratched up and I havent even used the knife. Im going to do a youtube review and show how the sheaths turn a brand new shiny knife into a scratched up mess, just by unsheathing and sheathing. Then Im going to return this knife. I dont mind scratches from use but to have the sheath that comes with the knife just ruin the whole look of the knife is a factory defect in the sheaths.

No doubt that dirt or debris in a sheath can cause scratches, but many times an off-axis draw (pulling more in one direction or the other) can cause rub marks; same with inserting the knife off-axis. May or may not be the case here, but just saying, after over 25 years experience with making sheaths. Sounds like your attempts to fix the problem are causing a lot of debris in the sheath unless you are thoroughly cleaning it before reinserting your knife.

I gave up on form fitting sheaths a long time ago. The loose fitting cordura sheaths work great, and if I'm really bored I'll carve out a leather sheath for myself. They may be less convenient, but after having a freshly polished edge on a brand new knife roll on some grit in the factory kydex sheath I specifically avoid that stuff.
