Hey all! I've been lurking around for a while, so I figured I'd join. I hope I'm not putting this in the wrong place, but I didn't see the "noob thread (and I looked a bit)". Anyway, I've always been a gun guy, but for some reason didn't do much with knives apart from an old Cold Steel SRK if had for years. But I got this...

And have kept going. I'm just looking to learn all I can, particularly about how to sharpen better and what's "good" for less than $100 (under the wife's radar :D)

So, that's it. If I've misplaced this, I apologize to the mods. I'll delete it or you can.

This looks like a fantastic forum. I'm glad you're here!

Welcome to the forum, you are in the right place to find all the information you need

Welcome. I'm new to this world too but the ride has been good so far. I've learned quite a bit on here and expect to learn a whole lot more before it's over.

Welcome. Hang around here long enough, and you will learn how to sharpen (check out the Maintenance, Tinkering and Embellishment sub-forum), and what are good, inexpensive knives (Mora, Victorinox, Opinel), and how to blow more than $100 on knives. You're a gun guy, so spending $$ is nothing new ;). You don't have to spend a lot of money on a fancy sharpening system. Buy a well used Stockman (3 blades of different shape) on the auction site, a hardware store stone, and some sandpaper, and learn how to sharpen freehand. It will be challenging at first, but all things worth learning are.

anyone who fancies and owns a heiho
is more than welcomed to stake out a share in this forum.
hope you enjoy your stay.

Welcome to the forums, read the FAQ and the Stickies at the top of each forum, this'll help a lot.

BTW, better start coming up with excuses/reasons for all the additional knives now... :)

I think you're off to a good start. This is a very good learning tool. The CS SRK is a fine knife, especially the old Camillus Carbon V ones. I'm always fond of the Czech stuff, when it comes to firearms.

Welcome to the forum! You'll learn a lot here(mostly how to end up with too many knives that cost lots of money). But the most valuable information is stuff about steels, locks, materials, different brands, etc.
I think you'll love it here and feel like you are a part of something much bigger than just a bunch of people hanging out and talking about knives.
There are tons of sub-forums and lots of info. You'll meet people here that you'll never meet in person but you'll feel like they're your best friends, you'll notice there is a huge variety of people into this hobby.
Oh and beware all of the eye-candy, it will just further your knife "problem". Lol.

Glad to have you here amongst all of us knuts. =]

you only think knives are cheaper than guns. the wife's radar will be locked on soon enough.
Yeah... It's funny how similar the two are. "No, hon. I just want this one pistol and I know it's $300, but it's a one time purchase". She makes me sign contracts in October for no more guns haha!
I've already got the next $500 in blade purchases mapped out

Guns and knives just seem to go together so nicely!!

Forgot to add a big WELCOME!!

Beautiful 75, and I love that folder. What is it? They really are one heck of a pair!

And here's one more. I really like the RAT 1...

Thank you all so much for the warm welcome. I'm really looking forward to digging in!

Welcome to the addiction and the forum. It's a great place to be! For under $100 I'd go for a Spyderco Sharpmaker, and a strop.

Welcome and I like your P-07 more than your knife.......Stick around a while as there is a lot to learn here and I learn something new every day.
I suggest the Sharpmaker for less than $100.

G'day and welcome to the forum! Have a look over in Maintenance, Tinkering & Embellishment for advice on sharpening. It doesn't cost much to get started on sharpening (someone already mentioned sandpaper) and it's worth buying a couple of inexpensive but decent knives to practice on. The different manufacturers' forums are also worth having a look at to see what's around, what people like and why they like them. Then when you're full of knowledge and knifey goodness head over to the custom knives areas and see what the knife maker members have on display or for sale - the quality and beauty of some of the stuff around is just amazing. You've probably noticed it's a pretty friendly place - enjoy it! :)

Welcome CitizenPie. Seeing you are from Utah and interested in sharpening, you should check out Flexxx Strops. They are made in the Salt Lake City area. Glad to have you with us!
