Hello all.
I am brand new to the forum and hate to throw something like this out there for my first post but here goes.......
I need help indentifying a knife. I have searched the internet everywhere and looked at countless pictures and still come up with nothing.

Here is my story in short if you would please read.
My Dad gave me a buck knife several years ago. It was what i believe is a Bucklite model. I have dressed countless Deer- Pigs-Turkey-Ducks with ths knife and it was very dear to me. I was returning from a hunting trip and it slipped my mind that it was in my backpack ... Airport security took it from me. It was my fault and I know Im a bonehead.I was in a foriegn country and didnt have time to step out of line and mail it home when they saw it on the xray.

This absolutly broke my heart because my Dad is no longer alive and I have very few persnal possesions from his life so the things he actually gave me over time meant alot to me. I know some would say to put those things away and save them but I loved the knife so much I used it regularly.

I would like to describe it.
It was a Buck

Black Composite Handle But the knife was solid and fairly heavy
.
Total length about 4-1/2 inches

2 Blade both locked back

One blade was standard and the other was standard serrated combination. Only about half of the blade was serrated and the remainder was standard. The serrations started about an inch down the blade.

Both blades were about 3 inches long

The Standard non serrated blade had a little triangle slot in the top toward the back to use probably as a small tool to loosen small parts but I used it to open the knife one handed with my thumb because it was slightly exposed when closed.

It hand a lanyard hole in the but of the handle.

If I could indentify the model then I might be able to find one and replace it. Even tho the knife is at least 9 to 10 years old ( I can remember exactly what christmas it was he gave it to me )Im hoping there are a few still out there.

If I could find some 2002 back to 1998 catalogs Im sure i could indentify it.
I realize that this post is probably "off the chain" but I really dissapointed and will use every resource I can come up with to indentify it.
I hope this finds you all well and God Bless.
Regards,
Blades

Welcome to the forum. Sorry for your loss, both of your father, and the knife that has such a connection to him. I have my father's old scout knife which I treasure, even though the old man is still kicking (turns 75 tomorrow as it happens).

There is absolutely no need to apologise for this thread. I am sure you will receive an abundance of replies that will not only help you identify the knife but also offer suggestions as to how you might go about sourcing a replacement. All the best.

sounds almost like a crosslock...I would check ebay and wade through the mountain of Bucks there and see if one resembles yours. And welcome to bladeforums new brother :D

was your knife shaped like these?

if so sj24 nailed it. look for the 180 crosslock, they were made in many color & blade combo's.

This one has the triangle slot mentioned in the blade that's not in any of the crosslocks, but has no lanyard hole. I'm still checking the catalogs for something that has both features that the OP mentions. Other than the lanyard hole, this one is close.

The Selector (one with one permanent blade and one changable) might be it, but I can't find any blades with the triangle hole or with a lanyard hole in the handle.

I've gone back a long way in the catalogs and can't find anything that completely matches the description. Two bladed knives that size aren't common and nothing I've found has both the blade cutout, partial serrations and lanyard hole as described.

Is it possible that it wasn't a Buck brand knife? We all know that many people use the term "Buck knife" for any large folder, much as any adjustable wrench is a "Crescent Wrench" or as water pump pliers are all "Channellocks".

Just a thought.

This is it !!!!! Thank you guys so much and thank you Plumberdv !!!! And all of you for responding. Does anyone know the model? Im sorry I miss led you guys about the Lanyard hole.
I sincerly appreciate the time and effort all of you put into helping me. I looked the pictures over twice and dont know what the model is. This is definantly the knife.

Now i need to indentify the model and I'm sure I can find a replacement.
On a side note. I have been reading and searching the forum and WOW what a great bunch odf members -- and the knowledge base is unbelievable. I am in the Custom Lure Business and belong to a Forum called Tackle Underground and let me tell you we have a Forum membership that is second to none as far as fishing tackle. This Forum is so close to knowledge of blades that it compares alot to the tackle forum.

My second pasion is knives of all sorts so i'm here to stay and hope I can some day return the favor.
Once again -- I cant thank you enough.

Here's a screen shot from the 2001 catalog when they were introduced. I have one of each, the 274 and 275. The 274 is stamped with Buck, USA and the date stamp for 2001 on the blade but no model number. The larger 275 is stamped Buck, and Japan and also has no model number. Here's a post by Joe Houser about them from 2007.

"I always thought they were great little knives, hated to see them discontinued. If memory serves me correctly, the 274 was made in both Japan AND the USA. The original plan was that they would both be made over there then we pulled the 274 back to the El Cajon plant.
We then went to work on getting the 275 in house and just about the time we were ready to do that, they were discontinued.
I think we were bringing them in house because we could make them quicker, it was not a quality issue. Hope this helps.
