Yo, new guy here, hoping to make some friends and learn some cool things from some people.

That being said I do have my first question here for my knife. I recently purchased the vosteed raccoon, crossbar lock version and im obsessed, absolutely love it but I admittedly couldn't stand the bright orange backspacer... so I removed it and made sure everything was retightened with blue loctite, did all my micro adjustments etc. Etc. the knife looks and feels amazing but im curious, does removing the backspacer mess with the integrity of the knife? Should I have left it on for safety or is it purely esthetic? I only ask because my other vosteed raccoon, the top liner lock variant, doesnt have a backspacer and it seems fine but I wanted to double check with the pros!

Thanks in advance for any help provided 🤘😎

Most backspacers are there for looks, you might be able to find another, in a color you like.

Shouldn't affect any operation of the knife, other than more pocket lint getting in. 😉
Thank you! I didnt think it would effect anything given that its such a small spacer near the bottom but I wanted to be sure, thanks! Ill look for a black one if they got it but I haven't looked for any backspacers for the raccoon yet

Thanks for the replies and the welcomes folks lol first, I dont hate orange entirely and I like the orange thumb studs, I get alittle ocd about the particulars though so while the studs were fine, the backspacer for me was alittle much.. very bright.
Second, I've been collecting knives my whole life and while I dont own a chris reeves yet, I do own a couple of high end blades and this is definitely not my first cheap blade either. Every once in a while a blade will catch my attention even if it is more of low grade premium like the raccoon and more recently the kizer pokiman.

Again thanks for all the replies ladies and gents! The knife does indeed have standoffs so the spacer won't be needed but i might try the rit dye idea if the spacer is g10 🫡

Welcome! Now that you've started on something cheap, time to spend $550 on a Chris Reeves.

Easy, now! We don't want to horrify the new enthusiasts too much, at first. Like any addiction, ya gotta ramp up the dosage.

I'm going to suggest eventually sinking that $500 into machinery and tooling to make your own backspacer(s). And if you decide a milling machine is the way to go, you can easily add another $2500 to that.....

I should explain to those who i confused with my awful wording and grammar 😅 I meant I was new to bladeforums but I have been a knife collector for a lonnnnnng time, since I was a kid. I'm just now getting into high end knives and working on them as well, im also a major firearm enthusiast and I work on them quite a bit so my love for that recently grew into knives and now i have questions and wanted to be part of the community. Thanks for the help folks, you all rock! 🫡

Been with kershaw awhile so I used to carry the iridium(m390 steel version) and before that I was rocking the benchmade osborne blackout from bladehq. Lately though I've been wanting to edc a knife thats just a tad cheaper with materials almost as good so I dont feel as guilty beating it up, the kizer pokiman is also a fantasic little knife for its pricepoint and another good example of this 😅 what's your current carry?

Well then you already know your way around high quality flagship knives. And yes I also have a soft spot for kizer detents at killer prices. This is usually my dedicated worknife, a spyderco manix. If I have to do like networking or go into Chicago I carry a Viper DAN2
