Hello all, new member with a new to me knife. I was given this knife for moving a neighbors deceased husbands foot locker into another room. And she wanted me to have it.
It has G.C. Co. 090 on one side and Othello Soligen Germany on the other. It fits perfectly in what I am assuming is the original sheath with a moose on it ,along with metal edge on the bottom.I have found small bits of info but not a knife with 090 stamped on it. Any help with identification and value would be appreciated Thanks

It sounds like a Solingen made Edgebrand knife, imported by the General Cutlery Company. These were very popular during the 60s and 70s. A picture would help.

BTW, the rules prohibit us from discussing value until you become a Gold Member.

Sorry

Upload them to a hosting site like imgur.com and then link them here.

Will get some pictures and hopefully learn how to post them

As a registered user, you can post pictures using a picture hosting site. I use Imgur, but there are others. Once you have uploaded a picture, copy the web address of the picture. Note: picture web addresses must end in .jpg or .gif

Then go to your post and click the image tool on the toolbar next to the smiley tool. Paste the picture address into the resulting popup. Then click the INSERT button.

GC CO = Gutmann Cutlery Co of Mount Vernon, Ny. Big post WWII importer of knives till the late 90's when they sold out to the folks (Steve Balolia) that run Grizzly Tools in Washington. Gutmann was known for being the first large importer of Puma knives. Othello is Anton Wingen of Solingen, a respected maker that closed in the 90's.

.

Offhand, that design is 1960's, 70's. A little better than their standard imports, it would've been in the middle of the line for them.

Sorry for taking up the space and your knowledge,,, This picture thing needs to be put to bed. Thanks for quick helpful responses the replies were very much appreciated

Thanks for the correction “General” should have been “Gutman”.

Looks nice! Also I believe elk or red deer on the sheath! Although, Native Americans called elk "wapiti" some Europeans, northern anyway, call a moose an elk. Not sure about red deer though!!

Welcome Jay. Was the original owner a Soldier ? German cutlery was a big deal back in the day and often brought home by G I s .

There were a few items that would indicate he was former military, but his “ foot locker “ was homemade. And the grandchildren took all the good stuff but his age puts him in the correct time period
