Hello all, glad to be here. I am starting to take knife making a little more serious. I have started a couple knives in the past from old files. They really didn't go any where though I enjoyed the process . I have decided that I want to make a real effort of making a knife properly from start to finish. I am reading as much as possible. and youtubing my ass off. I have started to gather tools and am going to be building a shop area for my new hobby. I am working on a gas forge and gathering parts for a coal forge. I have ordered some 1080 for my first project and have collected some handle material as well. Any advice or help along the way is greatly appreciated.

I have a quick question. I am fortunate enough to have friends who hunt for food and are not interested in showing off their kills. What this means is they are willing to pass along the racks from the bucks they have killed this season. I want to harvest the horn for handles but don't want to screw up good parts doing it. I will post a pic of the current rack I would like to process for handles. I was wondering what the best process is to pull the rack from the skull, clean up including fleshing and removing from the bone and preserving them until I am ready to use them. Once again thank you for any help.
