Hi everyone. Just signed on to this site. I'm UK based and ex military (Royal Engineers). I posted in this area as Swamp Rat knives have piqued my interest, after a fair bit of research into what's hot and what's not these days. I just got my hands on a boxed, unused Gerber Parabellum (my fave lock knife of all time), so that's the medium size requirement sorted out!

I'm looking to get my hands on a chopweiler or ratweiler, but I'm interested to hear other people's opinions of the whole range, and also the Busse knives. For those in the know, SRKs seem to be rated about as highly as a knife can be. I've read reviews where it's even favoured over a Chris Reeve Project, which is some compliment! Anyways, looking forwards to talking with you all.

Thanks for the L Os guys. That's a great thread, Jeepnut. I'm liking the look of the ASH1, as well as the ratweiler. These blades really remind me of the old MOD survival knife I 'acquired' from the squadron stores many years ago. Great big chunky blade, thick as anything. Looking forwards to getting my hands on a good example.

I would definitely recommend snagging an ash1 while they are still selling on the busse site, Its a super sweet blade and you won't be able to get em this cheap again...

oh yea, and WELCOME to the Busse kin community!!!

Thanks Calder. That's a handsome specimen you've got there, good colours too. I like the simplicity of these blades, no hollow handles, saws, wire cutters, just a good strong sharp knife.

I'm also thinking of doing a jungle survival course in Guyana, it looks very tempting!

Hiya bro,

I f you are talking about a Coldsteel SRK then you will find they are nowhere near in the same league as Swamprat blades.
The Ratweiler or Chopweiler would be a great choice for a do-it-all type blade that will last a lifetime !!!
By the way where in the UK are ya ? I lived in Nottinghamshire up till just over 2 years ago !!!!

And for a somewhat smaller knife, let us NOT forget the Ratmandu!

That is one sweet blade. I will never let mine go... :D

Hi pitdog. I was really just referring to the appearence of the blades, rather than a direct performance comparison. Heaven forbid our armed forces should get good quality gear ;)

I'm from Blackburn (still have family there), but now live down in London for my sins.

Welcome to the Swamp, sohei!

As stated above, a Ratweiler or Chopweiler would be a great buy. Hopefully we'll see some smaller fixed blades from the Swamp pretty soon, as well.
