Hello BladeForums! New user, but addict for a while. My normal EDC is a BM 940 Osborne and a Leatherman Surge. I absolutely love both, but the surge is a little heavy. Anyway, I just wanted to say hello, and I'm happy to be joining such a community. Speaking of communities, I went to my local gun store today to look at some of the new benchmade's they had coming in, and they really had only a selection of autos, and combo-blade options, which are great and all, but I really prefer a plain edge, especially with sharpening and usability, but that's just my preference. Long story short, they didn't have any knives I wanted, so I was leaving and I spotted Surefire A2 Aviator for... $95! I mean... you kind of have to buy it at that price, but I had no idea that model retails for twice that, right? So, should I head down and grab the rest of them?

This is BladeForums, and yerr talking flashlight?
Why not go to CandlePowerForums?
In any event, I gave up on Surefires after buying this 700 lumen (no, that is not a typo!) Olight M30.

The Aviator is only like 50 lumens! WTF?
So, save your money and buy a REAL flashlight!

Don't buy combo edge knives, cause serrations suck.
Don't buy autos, cause the springs break.

Actually, the Aviator is 120 Lumens, but that Olight... is a very nice flashlight!

That's my thoughts exactly concerning combo-edged blades and auto knives, plus the serration offers only really small work room for cutting/sawing. Which is why I really like the Surge, with the blades on the side I can whip out my saw quickly if need be. But that's why I stick with plain edge as well, I've been looking for a BM 940 BLK, one of the reasons I'm happy to have access to this community.

Pleasure to meet you.

Welcome to the forums, Somber! A great bunch of fellows who are willing to help and share. Enjoy.

Most counter guys at most brick'n'mortar knife shops I've talked to have said that the general public prefers a partially serrated blade, and obviously that's why they stock them.

And by "prefers," of course I mean "buys more often."

I like serrations, they work for my purposes very well which involves a lot of cutting rope and cord.

I don't know what they retail for but remember that according to the FTC "retail" is the actual prevailing market price of a product (what people are actually paying) and has nothing to do with the fraudulent and fictitious manufacturer suggested retail price (MSRP) that is usually only there to imply something has more value than what the real market has determined. If most people are paying more than what you paid then you got a deal but if you pay half the MSRP for something it is meaningless as the MSRP itself is meaningless in determining any true worth. I'd like to see MSRP, "list price" and "sticker price", and all that sort of garbage, outlawed as deceptive and fraudulent advertising. I can make a product today that costs me one dollar to manufacture and for which no one in their right mind would pay more than two dollars for but I can still put an MSRP of ten trillion dollars if I want. And no you wouldn't be getting a ten trillion dollar product for two dollars, you'd be getting a two dollar product for two dollars.
