Hello everyone, new here.:D I've been reading for a while and decided on a Kershaw for a small pocket knife.

I picked up a Chive 1600 locally that was marked down half off. The knife is great. Quality much better than other knifes I've had, and the speedsafe is great.:thumbup:

It was marked down half price and has 4 "X"'s on the blade. I just was wondering what that meant?

Here are some pictures.

Your knife is a second. This means that it has a cosmetic blemish. It is considered mechanically shound and the mechanical aspects are under warranty. The cosmetic aspects are not, however.

After looking at it, I think the reason this one was XXXXed is b/c the markings were changed at some point after this knife was made. I have not seen one that had the KAI Patented written on the back scale and the minimal markings on the blade.

Welcome ww! Nice pick up! Where did you buy it? The reason I ask is that the 4 red X's mean it's a factory second. Do not freak out, I own two Kershaw's that are seconds. I couldn't find a flaw on either of them anywhere! One of them has become my EDC. Kershaw usually sells them at their factory sale. They are a hot item, cause you get a great knife at an unbelievable price. Kershaw's seconds are merely the ones that, for some reason known only to Kershaw, didn't pass their QC.

As I said, no reason to worry...consider yourself lucky that you got a Chive at half-price!

Now for the bad part. You have, without your knowledge, been exposed to the Kershaw drug. While you may not feel it now, I can tell you that you will begin to crave more and more Kershaws, and it will seem like each day you need a new "fix". Don't fight it...there's no cure...except to buy more Kershaws!

Hang around, there's a wealth of knowledge here. Sometimes (well, most always) there's some shenanigans going on, but everyone here's really nice...except for this guy named offsetlover. Ya gotta watch him...he'll snake ya in a minute! So hang around, and let us know what Kershaw you've bought next!

...dang spiral, you're fast tonight!

Pretty good pics Whitewhale. It must be a very minor blemish because all I see blemished
about it is the xxxx. Nice pick-up!

Welcome to the forums.

Thanks for the welcomes guys. Thats good to know about the "XXXX", and that it will still be covered mechanically for warranty.

SPXTrader, I bought this from a local mom and pop type gun and knife shop in Dublin, Ca. He has a nice selection of Kershaws. I think I already caught the bug, as I can't seem to put this knife down now.:D

AMEN BROTHER!!!

WhiteWhale: Don't fight it, just let the Kershaw flow through you. Before you know it, you'll be strung out like the rest of us...

It's a good thing! Oh yeah, WELCOME!

P.S. Drop me an e-mail with the name of the shop you purchased your Chive. I'm always in the Bay Area on business, and I'm always looking for places to shop for new blades, especially Kershaws.
