hello everybody!
I think that I have a little problem with my sak <victorinox handyman>.
after a hard try to open a bottle of a nice greek wine, I mentioned that the last spiral of the corkscrew was in a light contact to the handle under. It wasn't adjacent to the handle, but just one of the spiral of the corkscrew <the nearest to the edge> was "touching" the handle, when the knife was closed.
As I am a perfectionist, but without any kind of related skills, I opened the corkscrew and I held it with a towell and I tryed gently to bend it slightly.
After this attempt, the corkscrew does not contact anywhere with the handle.
But I worry if I caused a damage to the body of this tool...
It seems like always <just fine!>, but...
Have got any similar "experience"? Or anything related to tell?
Has the corskrew of your sak, any contact point with the handle?

Thank you all.
<I feel so ashamed for my english...>

Welcome to Bladeforums! :D

I don't think you should worry about the corkscrew. If it had bent far, bending it back might strain the metal, but just a small distance and back won't hurt it.

My corkscrew snaps down into contact with the handle at the curves of the 4 spirals, but the very tip does not quite reach the handle.

I'm sure they temper the corkscre to take more stress than the blade, which has to be stiffer to maintain a good edge.

You don't have to apologize for your English, you expressed yourself quite well.

On my Victorinox Huntsman the spirals don't touch the liner but the two spirals closest to the point touch the handle scales. It doesn't sound like your knife is broken.

 I think that none of the spirals touches the handle by default.
I'm talking about the corkscrew of a brand new Victorinox.
The tip is Ok. No contact point.

On most of the Victorinox SAKs I have there is contact between the corkscrew and the scale and outer liner -
as this picture shows:

Normally the contact point is the first spiral from the tip - often the second spiral also touches.

If one uses the corkscrew often enough and snap it shut - eventually the spiral contact makes marks on the outer liner and scale.
The small stored in corkscrew jewellers' screwdriver can minimize this marking.

But contact is quite normal - as far as I can see there is no other hard stop to the corkscrew.

Firstly, thank you UnknownVT for your <very!> quick reply.
I have another question for you:

Do think that it is possible to harm my knife/tool mechanism at my try to reconvert the corkscrew in a position that it wouldn't have any contact point with the outer liner, neither the scale?

It doesn't have any contact point now and I cannot mention any change to way that my sak "sounds" or "feels" to me, but... :(

Do you have any idea, if anything bad may happen in the backround?

Sometimes, I think that I stick with some particularities so much. But I didn;t like marks on the outer liner and scale...

Thank you.

As long as you don't bend the tool to the side, where you might loosen the pivot, I think you'd be alright. You'd want to bend the shaft of the corkscrew and not the pivot point. Using two needle nose pliers would probably do the trick I'd think, or one on the shaft near the pivot and the palm of your hand (carefully)

Oh, and welcome! Believe me your English is much better than my ability to speak whatever you native tongue is!

(heck yer English is probably better'n mine most of the time)
