hi everybody this is my first post, but i have been reading for a sometime now. I just purchased my 3rd khukuri on Ebay, its a 15" sirupati including a two tier stand for $78 is that a good deal?
the seller posted a panawal photo and i thought i would get that, i dont know if i should keep this.
i'm surprised how slender the blade is and has a huge thickness at the spine. i'm looking forward to get one of HI's model. my first khuk was a cheap 17" $15 india-made,wood handle with unsharpened blade which i had to sharpened it with sand paper, i also unpolished it to give it a carbon steel look :) that was fun. i tested it and the blade is just sucks.
i aslo purchase a philippines golok and tested out. it was very sharp until i used it for chopping coconuts, it became serrated :)

Welcome to the forum Nahcaup! I think you will like it around these parts! You must try an H.I. there is nothing better!!!

On Uncle Bill's behalf, welcome to the HI Stagestop and Cantina. And mine also.

You'll find we're just a bunch of weird cousins here who get along ok as long as they remember to take their medications.

If you are looking for people who actually like their blades bent, you've come to the right place ;)

Welcome!! Pull up a stool and stay awhile--its a great place!:D

And of course buy an HI khuk, you WILL love it! If you don't Uncle Bill will refund it or let ya trade for another--can't beat customer service like that:D

Glad to have you in the Cantiuna, pull up a chair or a barrel or something and set a spell.:)

$78.00 with a stand sounds pretty good to me if you got a decent khukuri.:)

Welcome aboard. This is the place to share and learn. Enjoy your stay. What kind of khukuri are you getting next?

Welcome, nahcuhp -

The group appears to be a solid family, but like all families it has its' divisions. There are the Researchers (1) and the HIKV-positive members (everybody else). If you have one Khuk, you have been exposed. At two, you have the infection. Beyond two, you are incurable, and blaming your acquisitions on "research" is the height of denial. Stay away from people in white coats (especially the ones with nets) and join the fun.:D

Naucuhp, don't feel too bad about your first purchases leaving a sour taste in your mouth.

Some wonderful stuff comes out of the Phillipines, from Kris Cutlery, which has earned a good reputation. So does some utter garbage. Likewise Nepal.

Even Marto in Spain makes and sells gorgeous stuff for decorators, of stainless which is too heavy and too brittle. Looks good but useless.

Anything marked H.I. is good stuff. Even the village made khuks that aren't H.I. are rough as a cobb but amazingly good for the money.

You surely aren't suggesting that the Cantina is secretly the hide out of the Hole-in-the-Net Gang?

Did your Sirupati come from Gurkha House?

I would suggest you try a 18" WWII khukuri from H.I. before deciding on which to keep.

Will

the sirupati is exactly like the 15" of HI except for the katana-like habaki? its from a traveler back from katmandu, nepal
