Hi All,

I found the site after reading this review: http://funditor.110mb.com/Chiruwa Ang Khola Khukuri Review.html

I must say, I'm highly impressed and thoroughly amazed by the people and products of H.I. I'm just sorry that it took me so long to find, and that it comes after the passing of Uncle Bill. I've gathered that he is an exceptional person. I'm sure he is reaping the rewards of much good karma right now.

Since I found the site about 10 days ago, I've been reading every thread, review, and recommendation I can find, and I still haven't been able to determine a first. If we weren't closing on our first house tomorrow, I'd probably already have 3 knives ordered.

I really like the WWII, AK, GRS, and M-43. I really, really like the Foxy Folly and YCS. The fullers are just "WOW!", in my opinion. Unfortunately, it seems like getting those would be rare now.
The JKM-1 is interesting to me also, especially since a good friend/coworker has the last name Mattis too. He says he would have to check his family tree to see if there's a relation.

Lately, I've seen the Bonecutters for sale, but they're not listed on the H.I. pages anywhere. They seem to be comparable to a Chiruwa AK, without such a steep angle on the spine though. Is this a valid comparison?

Thanks in advance.

Welcome Khuku'nut!
Pull up a chair, stay awhile and learn much from reading and the knowledgable friendly people we have here.

Many of us here are sad that we never got the chance to know Uncle Bill, he was an exceptional person, the likes of which are rare these days. Incredibly knowledgeable, friendly and kind to a fault. We are Fortunate though to be blessed to have his wife Yangdu at the helm, who shares the same traits and philosophy. She is a wonderful lady whom i'm sure you'll get the pleasure to know if you hang around here long enough.

Any of those you listed would be great first khuks, you just have to wait for the one that calls your name and be ready to shoot Yangdu an email as fast as you can. The sharks in these waters tend to feed with lightening speed when the deals are good.
The Foxy folly isnt too prevailent anymore, but from time to time we still see a YCS or two come up for sale here. You just have to check the DOTD's daily to see them come up. The Bonecutters are a specialty of a certain Kami named Sgt. Khadka, who makes them for H.I. to support his son thru medical school. Your comparison would be mostly correct, except that the Churwa AK may be considered a slightly tougher khukuri. Both are Formidable choppers in their own right

I ordered a bonecutter recently, but it hasn't arrived yet (next week sometime). Are they full-tang or stick-tang? Look like full-tang from the handles, but I can't see whether those are just decorative studs or actual bolts. Looking forward to getting it, either way.

They are full tang, those studs are never decorative on an H.I. khuk.

Welcome Khuku'nut! :)

You will find as many recommendations for a first Khuk as you will find members here, and they are all good.

It all boils down to this: There are no bad choices, and whatever you get for your first, it will not be your last. ;)

In other words, don't overthink it, and definitely don't stress too much over it. :D

Welcome again!

Welcome!!

Good advice all around:) People don't pick out a khuk, a khuk picks out a person;) Keep your eyes peeled for one of Yangdu's deal of the day threads and snag yourself a winner.

The very best thing about an HI khuk is the forum. You'll come for the khuks and stay for the kooks:D A better group o' guys and gals cannot be found on the interwebz.

Enjoy your stay, and feel free to ask any questions that you might have. We love having new guys brings stuff to the table:thumbup:

If you want to chop, the BC is the one, no doubt about it. A bunch of us heard about ones made by another khuk-producing company, practically impossible to get now, and clamoured for an HI version, and lo and behold, Sgt. Khadka and Yangdu delivered.

Based upon information contained in the initial announcement of Murali Kami's 12, 14, and 16inch Bonecutters, that once this batch are sold, there will be no more made by him. So if you want one of his, get in now!

However, Sgt Khadka will still be producing his Boncutters but they are limited offerings.

Welcome! I'm fairly new here too and take it from me, you will find yourself with a kurk for every situation very quickly so dont fret over your first. I bought a dotd 20" Bolo as a start and figured it would be "the blade" for a while.... less then a month later I own a 20" CAK and 18" villager WWII.... The only thing that has stopped me from buying more is my odd love for my WWII. I'm afraid of buying another that may steal my love for my WWII!!

Hey Chris,
Glad to meetchya :)
Have fun exploring this mysterious and enjoyable world of Khuks and Kooks.

Welcome to the forums and to HI! Keep an eye out for the deals and see if something catches your eye. Or just email Yangdu when you have the money and ask her to send you something. She's pretty good at picking something you will like.
