hello all, my first post here on Bladeforums and the SOG forum gets the honour :D only one SOG in my armoury at the moment and it's the S-1 bowie, really love that knife, the leather handle, the blade grind, the faceted tip, only problem is i like it that much i've never used her i should really get another one so i can use one and keep the other looking young and pretty.

as seen as it's my first post a little about me.....the name is Mark, married , three kids, live in the U.K. heading for 40 very soon.i have a liking for sharp things, i like good gear, doesn't have to be expensive it just has to be good. i am more of a user of sharp things not really much of a collector, but leather handled SOG's do appeal. currently own SOG S1, Extrema Ratio Shrapnel, Al Mar Nomad folder, a couple of Gerber river knives ,a Gerber ridge knife on my key chain, and a small Swiss Army Knife and finally a Gransfors wildlife axe. anyhoo, thanks for reading and i'll see you here from time to time .

Vakko , yeah mate you beat me ! welcome to the forum English Mark . but i can garauntee you won`t be able to stop at 1 sog

Welcome Mark, nice bunch of knives you have.

I really like SOG knives, but I really really like that Al Mar Nomad, don't own one though......:grumpy:

Robbie Roberson. ;)

WELCOME !!

The SOG S1 was my first SOG ...... a SEAL 2000 was in the same box, but I opened the S1 first, so it gets the honors.

May as well get going and allow yourself to be overtaken by SOG madness !!

Cheers,

Carl

Thanks for the welcome fellas,
Sirgalant , you're right another SOG is most likely coming my way before too long.
Robbie , i can reccomend the nomad, a very handy well made knife and very sharp as well. i've got nothing bad to say about it.

Your not a new guy, just someone who still has money and is still married 'cause his obsession with knives hasn't replaced everthing in his life yet.

Still hello and welcome.:)

Welcome mark,I have a question for you;How many of your fellow mates believe the strict laws the u.k. has adopted concerning weapons is a welcome relief, or pc stupidity gone wild?tnx mate!

no thanks mate , but i suppose you`re right , at least in australia we can have locking folders (but no switchblades, daggers,or balisongs , assisted openers are considred switchblades , but like i care i have 4 of them)

Donny, i've got to agree with Maverick the laws do seem pretty dumb, but it could be a lot worse, most of the stuff that has gone on lately is in my opinion press induced paranoia. I generally carry a locking folder all the time. Ive never had any problems with the law, common sense and your own behavior go a long way.

Yeah well in the UK a legal knife is less than 3" and non locking... complete crap IMHO. But hey... never know things may change. I reckon they will allow bigger better knives the day that Hayleys comet smashes Parliment to bits... till then I guess I must wait :) and pray :) :) :)

the non locking bit is something i can't get my head around, i can't see the point. i really don't see how a knife is deemed to be more dangerous in the eyes of the law because the blade is locked in place.
A lot of hysteria about knives in the U.K. is generated either by the press or people who are scared by their own shadows. People that "get it" about knives generally see knives for what they are, tools that are handy to carry for every day to day things. nothing to be scared of there i think.

The law sees it that a locking blade when opened and locked is a fixed blade. Daft I know but thats the way the law sees it. Fact is tho that most of these hi profile stabbings have been done with normal kitchen type knives.

Its just a knee jerk reaction from a knee jerk government which is incidentally filled with "jerks"
