First of all, as this is my first post here, allow to say that im pretty happy to communicate with other Buck lovers.
Im amazed by the Kalinga models but cant decide which one to get: the fixed (with rosewood handle of course) or the folding (with rosewood handle as well)? I need some advice from you guys. By the way, if anyone of you can post some pictures of the folding kalinga (in several directions: opened, closed, mechanism,...) so this will make it easier for because i had the chance to see the fixed Kalinga in person but not the Folding. I would be glad if anyone can do me this favor.
By the way, which one is more considered as a collectile? i usually collect knives rather than using them.
Thanks in advance for your input folks!

Regards,
Laurence.

Get one of each, I couldnt decide either ;)
The folder is very smooth opening! Locks perfectly! As far as value for collectors? They are both pretty new. My guess in the future would be the fixed but who knows at this point!
Whether to buy one or the other? What do you prefer? Fixed or folders?

Thanks for getting back to me! i usually prefer folders as all of my knives are folders. but the fixed has a wonderful shape. its hard to resist it. Im totally lost here. by the way, since you own both, which one do you prefer?

I couldn't part with either. :D
I can say the brass/rosewood is 3X as nice as the camo version. Not that the camo is bad but, the rosewood/brass/S30V is THAT nice!!!
The fixed has a larger blade that is great for deer. The folder would be more of my EDC type of knife.
I still vote, one of each! ;)
Good luck.

Is there a big difference in terms of length? i also wanted to know, in your opinion, which one is more as a work of art? my speculations would go for the folding as there is a mechanism inside, dont you think so?

Collectable / wood scales EDC / rubber scales I only have the rubber scales folder but always looking for another Buck.

Handles have the same dimension lengthwise, but the fixed seems to be a tad narrower. I like the fixed better as far as ergonomics. They are close to the same weight, the fixed has about a 1" longer blade and its about a 1/4" taller.
I will try to get a comparison pic for you tomorrow.
Upon further review, IF I could only have one I would want the fixed. But I still recommend both!

They are both "works of art" :D But I like the sheath design of the fixed better also!
(YMMV, JMHO)

Hi Makilla,

"Work of art"
That depends on you!!! There are already a few of the fixed blade version that I would consider both collectable and a work of art. One is for sale by the NRA; it's the brass/rosewood knife with NRA cut out of the blade. Another has a dark gray wood handle and has a deer head cut out of the blade, offered by Dick's Sporting Goods store. Some of the folks here don't like blade cut out's....But I like them. If you search the forum you will see photo's of both of the knives I mentioned...or maybe one of the other guys can link the photo's for you.
