Just a qiuck hello to you all.

Just purchased myself 2 BM 42's one anodised. Qiute an achievement in England as it is illegal to import balisongs into the country. Due to the ill concieved knife laws over here. Advised to join this forum by someone on the BM forum.

Expect many stupid questions about bali manipulation!! Quite new to it as you would be able to tell by the number of band aids on my knuckles.

Brief bio, i'm a eskrima and JKD instructor in my spare time, in my work life I'm a cop. Thanks in advance for the answers to my stupid questions!

Cheers,

Ste.

Wecomed you on the BM forum. Lots more free expression here.

Go to Balisong Extreme. Then go to Balisongcollector. Then get lots of bandaids. Have fun!!

Welcome to your destiny. And since you started off with excellent bali purchases that elimantes that prob so go to Clay's site and start flipping. And remember there's no such thing as stupid questions if we've all heard it before that just means we're more prepared to give you the right answer.

Good to see u decieded to join us.....I was the one who turned u to this forum

Welcome

Welcome cea-cyclepath and remember:

There ARE no stupid questions............. just stupid people :D (sorry....... couldn't resist the South Park quote).

Enjoy your new (soon to be) obsession. It's pretty cool to see a COP get on the "illegal cutlery" bandwagon.

JKD instructor huh? Those are pretty rare. I'm currently studying JKD with Sifu D. Keller here in Florida and it has been a great experience. He is certified in all 3 stages and specializes in trapping. Which stage are you certified in (LA/Chinatown, Seattle, or Oakland?) It's cool to see another JKD person around who's also into balisongs.

Remember, the elbow is the key to the center line.

hey, you should have a real fun time with those. i was wondering where did you purchase these two items at. Also how much was the cost.

Hey, sorry to have missed your "intro" post on the BM forum -- I'll use this opportunity to welcome you to both places !! Great folks on each forum. You'll learn a lot about Bali's here -- I'm still in that mode, too !! :)

Welcome to the madness cea-cyclepath! It's nice to have a bali-friendly LEO among us. I hope we can answer some of your stupid questions in the future. ;) :D

Ello. I'm new too. I'm not a cop.. just a lowly computer programmer... actually making software for video lottery terminals =)

Like the cop, it's illegal to import balisongs into Canada.. unfortunately. Yes.. the BM-42a is nice.. isn't it?

I had a Bear MGC before that.. quite a big change, I can't even handle the bear anymore.. it's just.. ick. Unbelieveable how much a difference it makes, and what more I can do with it.

So... why the band-aids? I handle mine a fair bit.. and have become quite good at it.. but I don't ever cut myself.. maybe a nick here and there, but nothing that bleeds unless i'm doing aerials, and it happens to prick me a little as it comes down... Nothing i'd need a band-aid for though. But.. I guess I haven't gotten into the finger-twirls yet.. hm. what kind of stuff do you mostly cut yourselves on?

Most cuts come from not paying attention. If you manipulate long enough you will get cut. Another hint, don'y flip without shoes on your feet. Personal experience speaking.

Hey SilverLighT. I most commonly cut myself during aerials. I think that's pretty common with most people. Your run of the mill aerials don't tend to cut that deeply, but the more awkward throws do. Locking the bali open and doing aerial manipulations will probably cut you the worse, as the inertia of the flying knife can't be absorbed by the swinging handles. And of course any finger twirls that involve rotating the knife mid-twirl can capture your fingers if you're not careful.

And Navajo is absolutely correct... WEAR SHOES!!!

shoes? uh oh. I don't...and probably won't.. due to me only being able to practice in the privacy of my own home.. i've had a few drops, but i've always managed to move my feet out of the way... so far.

I suppose I will get cut eventually.. once I get to the real crazy stuff.. as for having the bali locked open, and getting cut worse.. i'm not real worried about that. I've been flipping fixed and locking blades for years... they're pretty predictible, and I know when to abort. Unlike a bali when it's open.. there are a couple more variables to take into account..

Oh.. also.. what's JKD, btw?

Welcome to you both won't you stay a while. Relax, kick back sip a cool one and flip a few.....RDT

I don't wear shoes either although I should as you will eventually get caught. When I was practicing my first aerial I my 42as ended up stuck in the top of foot until I pulled it out. That hurt. Still I accept pain as part of the learning curve and get an immense rush out of successfully dodging any drops that come into play.

And JKD is Jeet Kune Do. A martial art style formed by Bruce Lee and Dan Inosanto. One which I would love to get into but I think the nearest instructor is in Austin a healthy drive away.

Welcome to our humble home.
If you got...
  • questions: ask

Most things are welcome. ;)
