I am officially addicted to Multi-Tools. In the last week I have purchased or received a Core, Pulse, and Wave to compliment my Charge ALX and SuperTool. I am currently considering strongly a Spirit S. Someone Stop Me!

Smash05,

Although your multi-tool addiction is healthier than some chemical addictions, it must not be taken lightly! Here's a little positive encouragement to help you...

I think we're all a bit addicted to multi's. I have four (4) so far that I use on rotation. Just can't beat the practicality and convenience of having one handy all the time.

Plus, the satisfaction you get when you help out others with simple tasks. Especially from the young women. ehehe.:D

Now I gotta go get me a Skeletool next!

well be at peace with your true self-give in to your indulgences-much less than a new wife or ferrari

me, well i love pocket knives-swiss army pocket knives-and i have many more than i will ever really need-even if i lost most of them

but just to make you feel better, even with this perspective on my priorities

i own
2 swiss tools,
old wave, and an
old super tool , and
the really old original gerber slide out pliers tool-

go for it!!!!!

You are about to find out that there are many multi's out there, each with its own features and faults. By your 10th or so purchase, you'll be able to speak very intelligently on the subject...but you'll always be looking for the perfect tool:rolleyes:

You said that right!!!

You mean there might just be a "perfect" tool? - I must continue my quest!

Peace eludes me now

Okay, here's how I got on that slippery slope:

Originally, since age 12, I owned one Boy Scout knife or SAK at a time, replacing them as they got lost, broke, stolen or given away. I had to have a multitool pocket knife, but wasn't interested in the subject, let alone a collection. All I knew was Wenger (good), Victorinox (better), anything else (huh?)

About 12 years ago, I was introduced to Leatherman, which seemed such a good idea that I acquired a PST, liked it, but didn't think it was hugely better than my Swisschamp, and carried it seldom. Not long after, I discovered Super Tool. It was the real deal; robust, locking blades, tool grade implements etc. With perfection at hand, I gave the PST to my craftsman son and an ST became my daily companion. A few months later, when the Micra was introduced, my EDC was complete. With a Micra for the scissors and other implements not on the big Leatherman, happiness ensued.

A few years into this, my son returned the PST (he prefers multitools with scissors), so now I had the beginnings of a collection. Actually, I got to appreciate the smaller size and weight of the PST, and carried it from time to time when packing lightly, or on several occasions, when traveling to locations where locking blades were not street legal. Then, as a result of bad influences (Bladeforum the worst :grumpy:), I became aware of other makes and models, and before long had a whole bunch. I kept telling myself I was testing and comparing them to keep the ones I liked and sell or give away the others. So I have, but somehow accumulated more than I got rid of.

Today, with a dozen (maybe more) on hand, carried or fondled frequently, I am forced to admit that I am no longer the minimalist I set out to be, but resist calling myself an addict. That doesn't mean I am not, just self deluding. However, I don't intend to acquire any more. :jerkit:

To avoid my fate, I would advise you to RUN, SAVE YOURSELF, but it's too late. Have fun. :D

Just be glad your addiction is not to Busse's, Scrap Yards, or Chris Reevs knives like mine has been lately! ,,,VWB.

If I had the money, I would probably be addicted to Busse, Scrap Yard, and Swamp Rat. As it is, I need to keep the addictions at bay. I have not yet purchased that Vic Spirit. Waiting for the good deal. For the moment I have switched back to fixed blades, and I am saving for a Mossberg 590.

To add - here is my slippery slope. I bought a SuperTool to replace a stolen Vic Camper back in 1998. I needed a multi for edc at college, I had never really been without a knife of some sort since I was about 8 yrs old. That supertool was my go to edc until last year when I decided I wanted to upgrade. I had been eyeing a Wave or Charge for a while, and when my Cousin decided to go cross country, I lent her my SuperTool and purchased a Charge ALX. I then decided I needed a backup Tool, and a good deal on a Core came up. Bought that, and found a good deal on a Pulse. Bought that, and a good deal on a Wave came up. Bought that. As a result, I find myself over run with tools :) The Wave is now my Car multi, and is in my car kit along with a Mora Clipper and a bunch of other stuff. The SuperTool is not my house multi, its in the tool kit. The Core is my current backup tool, it is in my daypack. I EDC the charge alx and the pulse depending on my mood. Basically I have decided to slow down because I really at this point have no need, and I want to enjoy the Pulse and the Charge. I keep my eyes open for good deals and figure when I see a good deal on a Vic I will pounce. At some point one of these multi's will find its way into the Bicycle/Scooter kit I am putting together for the Fiance. I will say this, that SuperTool still feels like the best tool I ever bought. Its still rock solid after 10 years, and if I had to give them all up it would be the last to go out the door.

After nine years of regular EDC, including several times helping me out of inconvenient situations, I got very fond of my Super Tool. In the end, however, it is only a tool, useful until something superior comes along, in this case Leatherman's Core. IMHO, it is a better tool for two reason: the implements are easier to access, also to unlock. It is possible to pull out Core blades with gloves on, but not so easily with the ST, if at all, likewise closing it. Most of the time, these differences between the two M-Ts are minor, but if you ever have to work with your hands wet and/or cold, the Core's advantage will become starkly apparent.

There are other small improvements (and deprovements), but none are of any concern to me, except one. Unlike the Core, a well used Super Tool can be flipped open with ease. This can be convenient if you need to one-hand pliers, a rare occurence for me, at least on a job. What I do enjoy, however, is to play balisong with my semi-retired old thing. Very entertaining. :D
