First of all, I am new, but have been lurking for a few years now.

I mainly hunt, and I looking around for a new knife for the field. Mainly dressing deer.

I came across this on Amazon: http://www.amazon.com/Drop-Point-Hu...4?ie=UTF8&s=home-garden&qid=1293770908&sr=8-4

Is this a good buy? Are they good knives?

Right now, I have an Anza F4, which I used to dress a deer this season. It did the job, but I have mixed reviews on it. I just recently added a nice Woodlands Puukko knife with a 3 inch blade to my pack. Haven't used it much yet. I have been on a knife buying binge lately.

If you have a recommendation, throw it my way. Thanks!

If you are interested in performance rather than appearance they are great knives. The D2 steel takes some work to get right but holds an edge as good as anything. They are knives meant for work rather than show. Look around as you will do a lot better price wise than the one in your link. They can be found for less than $40.

Everything he said.

Welcome to the forums. It is a great value for the price. It may not arrive sharp enough but once you put an edge on it, it stays for quite awhile. Try looking here: http://www.cumberlandknifeworks.com/ He has good prices and great customer service.

Looks like a great value.
D2 is probably my second favorite steel... love that stuff.
Shop around for a better price.

You can probably get it cheaper than that. I bought one as a general purpose hunting and field knife at Smoky Mt Knife Works for a lot less (about $50 as I recall). Mine has the black micarta handle versus wood which I prefer. It needed work on the edge profile (like many Queen's), but I worked on it and it is better now and razor sharp. The D2 and brand name is what sold me beyond the my general favorable impression handling it. The sheath is very serviceable.

They are very good no-frills knives. I consider them high quality. Buck, Case, and others produce similar knives.

+1 to what everybody else said. It's a really good knife but you should be able to find it for sale at a quite a bit lower price.
