Hi there!
My name is Sebastian, and I am a freelance Illustrator.
But that doesnt really matter right now.
Its my first time in the forums. I came here because I fell in love with himalayan imports work; both their products and their sense of duty and attention to every detail possible. It seems too good to be true, to even have the possibility of owning such blades, crafted with so much love and mastery.
I came to this forum with a simple question, regarding to aquire such marvelous tools.
Im a short man myself. There's an old saying that goes like this: he who has a short arm, needs a long knife... Or maybe WANTS a long knife? Whatever the case i think i like the 20 inch sirupate a lot, but I'd like it a lot more if the spine of the blade were a little thinner, for the sake of contol and speed.
Is there any way to arrange some kind of custom order? If not i guess i'll go for the kobra but i really like the siru a lot.

Thanks in advice for your time

Best bet is to email Yangdu with what you are looking for. Special orders are deff available and she can advise on what might be possible and what the cost would be

There is a thread in the forum about exactly this subject (thinner spined Sirus). Check out below!

Naranjazo:

Because HI khukuris are hand-made, and because each kami has his own style, there's a lot of variation in weight even for the same model and the same length. You might be able to get a thinner, lighter weight sirupate without needing a custom order.

First step would be to email Yangdu, tell her what you want, and see what she has available. You can find her email address at the HI web site: http://www.himalayan-imports.com/

If you haven't handled an HI khukuri yet, I suggest that you consider an 18" model rather than 20". They look and feel a lot bigger in person than in pictures, and the two inch difference in length can make a big difference in weight.

There have been many discussions and debates on this forum about length and weight for various purposes. Longer and heavier is not necessarily better, especially for self-defense, and you are already aware of the issue of control and speed. Others have pointed out that the khukuris generally preferred by the Gurkhas are of moderate length and weight.

Good luck and please let us know how it turns out.

Thanks you so much for your kind response, Dave.
In regard of blade length, I own a pair of kindjals about 25" and something like 1 pound. Nothing fancy, they are mass produced. I feel them very comfortable to my hands, and I've achieved some degree of skill with them. They are unsharpened. I am aware that handling a Khukuri must be a whole different story compared to my blades, but I really want to learn as much as possible about handling and technique. I'll think carefully about the blade length. The siru whould be my first fully-functional-sharp-as-hell blade, so I am kind of nervous about this.
I want it mostly for cutting exercises and self defense, as well as graphic study and research.
As soon as I have news I'll let you know.

Welcome Naranjazo!
Our friends here should giude you well. I appreciate their good help.
It will be my pleasure to assist when i'm feeling better. Not a good night tonight.
Take you time and ask many questions. Follow your preferences, but always keep in mind that the khukuri for you will call your name so loudly that you cannot help but hear. It will say "choose me and i will serve you well". I myself am a believer. I've heard the call too many times not to.
