Hello am new to the knife community and decided to join this forum I was looking at the kershaw knives so are these knives good starter knives?

Welcome to BF! There is a lot of information here for you to read about which knives are good, its basically all we talk about ;) To answer your question, yes definitely Kershaws make great starter knives.

Welcome.

If you are willing to spend the amount Kershaws, on average, cost, and you like their style...then yes, they are great "starter" knives.

Hello Knivesandknives. Kershaw gets great reviews. I don't own any, my taste is for other designs. If you throw out a price range on this site you'll see how to spend your money many different ways. That's the fun of collecting and using, you get to figure out what works for you.

If you can find a local knife shop you can feel in hand before buying. Ask here to find out if it's a good piece, I learned alot about which ones to stay away from on here.

For me Kershaw was the company that got me into decent knives. The leek in fact. Yes, they are excellent knives to start with, and finish with.

Kershaw has some of the best knives for the money. But don't think of them as a cheaper, or lower quality brand, compared to other companies. Their prices range all over the place, and even so the value is excellent. Pay a little and get a GREAT knife. Buy a top of the Kershaw and you get a KILLER knife. To me their right up there with Benchmade and Spyderco. Those three brands are the top of the industry in my opinion. 90% of my collection consists of those brands.

Some initial recommendations I can throw out are the Kershaw...
Leek
Scallion
Skyline
Oso Sweet - Just got this today in the mail. Great knife for killer value!!
Blur

Before I buy any knife I always try to find a video review of the knife first. On YouTube the review with the most extensive collection of video reviews is a guy named "Nutnfancy". Alot of people think hes too opinionated. Like him or not, his videos are full of facts and details as well.

Kershaw makes some really great blades for the money and would be a good first purchase.

Few choices to consider......

Blur
Scallion
Cryo (love this one)

Another great one to look at is the "Zero Tolerance ZT0350".

I just picked one up today and its gonna make a great addition to my EDC rotation.

Basically every 8cr and Sandvik Kershaw is excellent (there are a few hidden stinkers, though). Kershaw also has a superb warranty.

I only have a few kershaw's but I have to say for the money, you sure do get a lot of knife! They have many fantastic 20-80$ folders. I recommend you check out spyderco too. Then once you get comfortable spending over a 100 for a knife check out benchmade. :D May god have mercy on your soul should you become addicted like the rest of us. After that point 200+ is nothing to spend on a knife. It's worse than any drug on the streets of today. The only cure is more and more expensive knives.
If you stick around and read a lot you will soon know what I mean. Once you become a knife nut there is no turning back.
Excuse anything that doesn't make sense in this post, its a friday night and Swoop has been dabbling in the alcohol again.
