Hello everyone, my name is Jason and I finally got around to becoming a member. I am looking forward to exchanging thoughts with others with similar interests.
The other day I received the pre-order e-mail from knifeworks ref. the ZT 0551. The pre-order info on their site stated that the knife was limited to 1000 knives, and that it was being made with the Vanax 35 steel. I came to Bladeforums to see if there were any threads, and there was one .Many individuals on this forum (I'm sorry I don't know your names yet) stated that the listing was wrong, that the knife would be made with Elmax steel. Everyone here seemed to me very credible. I came to the conclusion that Knifeworks must have gotten it wrong. Yesterday, I e-mailed Roger at Knifeworks about the conflicting information I was reading. He mailed me back and informed me that he had called Kershaw and they told him that his listing was correct, Vanax 35 was to be used on the 0551. I mailed Roger back today and explained to Roger all of the conflicting info I was seeing in internet land ref. the steel used. For example, Knifecenter says Vanax35, KnifeArt says Elmax. This is what Roger at Knifeworks wrote me today:

I had a call yesterday about this, they said they were going to originally going to use the Elmax on the 551 but they could not get this steel in time, so they decided to make a change and use the Vanax 35 instead, and are going to use the Elmax on the 550 regular production model. But this was all after they put out the printed material. I just hope all this will be right as this is what I was told yesterday.
Thanks,
Roger
I am not trying to beat a dead horse here, but rather wanted everyone in knife land to have all of the information before making a purchase. That is the same reason I read all I could before making the purchase on my own. To me, both steels sound great, but I'm sure for some of you it does matter before you drop $200. I know that a lot of you here definitely know what you are talking about. But, it sounds to me that some dealers have conflicting info and don't exactly know what they will be shipped. Some of you no doubt have inside connections to the dealers and ZT. Maybe you can dig some more and post updates.
Glad to be here......have a great day!
