I need something for faster reprofiling.Im just using some old coarse grit stone now and it takes me long time to do it.I get my knives to hair splitting edge most of time but hate reprofiling and most factory edge angles.Im just looking for smtg thats not too expensive .So is there anything besides belt sander.thx (dont have experience with diamond stones and dont know if they remove metal much faster than regular stones and if they do what grit should i get and what brand)

Coarse is the ticket to fast removal of steel. Be sure your stone isn't glazed. Wire brush the stone with some USP mineral oil and squeegee the swarf away with a rubber spatula. Silicon carbide stones cut faster than Aluminum oxide stones. Coarser grits are faster than medium grits. My grinding stones are 100, 220, and 320 grit. Wipe the blade with a rag when going to a finer stone to avoid contaminating a finer stone with a coarser grit. My polishing stones are 600, 800, and 1100 grit.

DMTs XXC stone is a fast metal remover.

Get some really coarse Zirconia belts 2-3" wide, cut them into sections, mount on a flat surface, and use like a stone.

Look at my Sig. :D Paper wheels will carry you to knife Nirvana.

Belt grinder. Though I use Paper Wheels and they work fine for that purpose. I even "fixed" a few broken tips with it.

I agree with Tiguy . Norton's coarse SiC stone (grey) 100 grit or DMT's XX-coarse or X-coarse diamond . These rebevel best of anything on the market if your considering stones . Belt sanders and bench grinders are faster but take care and go slow while learning . DM

I just removed recurve on BM710 M360 with D8XX - DMT Extra Extra Coarse 160 mesh 160 microb 8" stone. It take me 30 minutes from start to finish. I highly recommend it.

Only problem I see is that it pollute almost as a grinder, and after I have bad cough for several days every time I used it - now I put glass between my face and this stone, as it would be real grinder.

But it coast about $80 in WoodCraft.

Thanks, Vassili.

Belt grinder and Paper Wheels work well . Paper Wheels are my weapons of choice but of coarse you have to be carefull not to remove to much metal, easily done with powered devices !

I also use DMT EC. stone with my alinger if I dont have too much stock to remove.

Electric,
