I've been lurking around this forum for a week or so, and I've decided to join this community. Just to introduce myself.

I'm a noob so far, but here's my collection so far:

So far I have a crappy Jin Teng pocket knife (first one), a Gerber Firestorm Operation Iraqi Freedom (best $20 I have ever spent), and a piece of metal with nylon cord wrapped around it, forming a blade (only markings are "Stainless Steel" and "China"). I'm getting a Smith & Wesson Karambit and hopefully I'll be the highest bidder for a Glock 81 knife.

I know these aren't the brands that the forum community like, but first I have to get familiar with the community. I look forward to discussing with you guys.

Welcome to Bladeforums! :)

Any knife is better than no knife. This is a great place to learn about all kinds. I'm going to move this to the General Knife Discussion, since the Community Center is for non-knife discussions.

Welcome to the forums!
Learn all you can as there are many knowledgeable knife knuts here.
Enjoy your money while you can. The deeper you get in the more broke you get.:)

I think you underestimate the variety of knives that "knife knuts" (like me) accumulate over the years. ;)

Some vague unrelated points:
Everyone has to start somewhere.
Buy the best you can within your budget - lots of great knives cost $30 or less.
If on a tight budget (many of us are nowadays), keep eyes open for closeout and discontinued sales.
Please feel free to post reviews and comments of your knives, especially those that aren't discussed here much.

Welcome to BladeForums!

Welcome to BFC.

Looks like the gang (especially Bob) summed things up pretty well.

And fortunately i havent seen a whole lot of "Blade Snobbery" going on here, so relax, you are in for an informative and potentially expensive hobby:D
There are alot of great people on here
Read alot! and post some...
Good luck

Welcome to BF.

A few suggestions for inexpensive yet good quality knives..

Spyderco Byrd knives
Boker Trance/Subcom
Kabar Dozier folders in AUS8
Kershaw Chive

Welcome and you really have to try an Opinel. Cheap, fun and great slicers !

Welcome

+1 on a Kabar Dozier (20 bucks). There also used to be a Browning with VG10 steel for 30 bucks, but I forget where I got mine. Spyderco Native is a bargain for under 50 at Walmart. There's alot of good stuff under 50 bucks.

Don't forget about a Spyderco Sharpemaker (40 bucks). It will soon be a must.

Welcome Liist.

In addition to the excellent information so far, I'd just like to add that for many of us, possibly you too, that first knife may be the most valuable in our collection, at least sentimentally, and it doesn't matter who made it or what level of quality it is. Besides, there's always room for more. Right?

You'll like it here.

welcome aboard!!

tastes vary, as do incomes.

buy what you can afford, enjoy what you buy!!!

Hello Liist,

There is still time, step away from the keyboard! Turn around and do not look back until Bladeforums is off your browser. This site will hypnotise you. If you get hooked it will leave you with no food in the fridge, no social life, a drained bank account and a mad spouse. You will obsess with your sharpening skills, as well as sell off necessities just to purchase your next knife. It is a rut son! Run Liist run, ......ok too late, but you will have a cool knife collection after awhile! :D
Welcome to a great place!
CJ

Thank you guys for a very warm welcome to this website. I'll be sure to check out all that you guys have posted, and I'll learn quite a bit of information from you knife nuts. My income is quite low since I'm still a student.

cj65: I've been previously addicted to a few other forums and I know full well how forum addictions can go. Fortunately, I don't relate nearly as much to the knife community as I do to the college hopefuls community.

I'll be sure to send in a barrage of posts when I can :)
