Well -

Gotta make that 1st Khukri buying decision...16.5" Ganga Ram or 18" M-43

I'll be wanting at minimum 4 more...Foxy Folly, Chiruwa Ang Khola (probably my most frequent carry...what a surprise, huh?), Bonecutter and a Dui Chirra -

Suggestions for "geting my Khuk feet" wet...? Ganga Ram or M-43...?

Thanks all...

I have the exact same problem as you. I have a 15" right now and feel it's too small, so I want an 18" next.
I'm heavily leaning towards a M-43 because of all the excellent reviews I've read.

Indecisive? :o
Flip a coin, youre going to own em' all anyways. Whats it matter which came first. Just to be contrary to Rat and his M-43 mantra, I'm going to tell you get the Ganga Ram. Out of all of them though, the CAK and M-43 will be the easiest to get.

I have both, both good designs. The Ganga chops out of proportion to its size, it's one of my favorite models next to the Pen knife.

The M-43 is a harder hitter, but I don't like full tang khuks all that much. Having said that, I have a couple M-43s and only one GR.

If you want to do a lot of chopping, get the M-43. If you want a more all around knife, get the GR.

I'd recommend the ganga ram. To me, 16-17 is a very good all around length for a khuk. My first and favorite is my 17" ganga ram...and I have many. I like the look of others but the ganga's perform very well.

I do have a 12inch Bonecuter, 17inch Foxy Folly, 18inch M-43, 20inch CAK and 22 inch Dui Chira.

I'm very happy to use the Foxy Folly for my light chopping but think a Ganga Ram could come a close second to it? I certainly hope to get one and compare it to the Foxy.

A recent acquisition is a 16.5inch WWII which I recommend for your consideration if you are not after a more curved Khukuri as it feels it could match the Foxy in many ways and is much easier to obtain.

I wish I had an opportunity right now to test the Ganga just got, but no chance to do so at the moment. It's very comfortable to handle and well balanced as I mentioned in another thread.

Stop fussing and get both!!!! I told myself it's gonna be only two khuks this year for me.... Yeeeeh Riiiiiiiiiiiiiiight!

I've used my BGRS and not my M43 at this point in time, but judging but the looks of the latter, it'll have more bite when chopping, partially due to the length/weight difference and the length of the bevel typically found on 'em. The BGRS will be a little more compact, and as Andy C. mentions, packs a bit more wallop than many patterns in a given size class because of the extra mass placed towards the tip. I think perhaps the crux of your decision is the power of the M43 versus the greater ease of carry of the smaller BGRS.

Well, I made up my mind....and didn't get either! HAH!!!

Instead, owing to the beneficence of another HI Forumite, I've ended up with the two blades pictured below: an 18" Chiruwa Ang Khola and a 14" Bura Dui Chirra :D

and one other incoming...but I'll wait and post that after it arrives... here's a hint - it's long (22") shiny...and beautiful in hand. :o

Thanks to all who offered their opinion...
