Hi,
My best fit is 3 3/4" Case Medium Stockman 6318 pattern.
But I'd like to try Canal St.

So should I go for the smaller or bigger size ?

Personally I like the shape of the 4" Serpentine but I am concerned that it is too big.

Any thoughts are welcome.

Thanks.

Is it for edc or for collecting?
If for edc/user:
I hardly ever need bigger blades than the 3 3/4" comes with, but those are my needs. Maybe you would benefit from bigger blades.
So, for me it's in this comparison case mostly a question of how comfortable the knife is to carry. If you're going to carry it in your trousers pocket or jacket pocket or...
Personally, I find the 3 3/4" to fit well in my trousers pocket (that's where I normally keep my edc), but the 4" to be too big. The 4", however, works very well in a jacket pocket or trousers cargo pocket.
I never carry my knives in my back pockets, but if you do, maybe the size difference doesn't matter.

Just my 2 cents...

I just got one of the 4" CSC stockmans yesterday. Granted, I usually carry slightly larger knives (trappers, Copperlocks, etc) but to me the 4" doesn't seem at all "big". It's slim and light, and has nice rounder bolsters, and seems like it would carry well.

How long are the blades on the 3 3/4 stockman. I have been thinking about getting a new one and can't remember. Steven

Lots of variables are going to affect what you like. How big you are, what kind of pants you wear, if you carry other stuff in those pockets too... you'll just have to get them both and see which works better for you.:D
