940 vs 940-2
I bought both with the intent of deciding which one I like more and selling off the other. But here I am even more confused on which one to keep. Heres some of my reasoning.

940: I love the look and feel of the green aluminum scales. I prefer the aluminum actually because I like my knives getting a worn look over time.. But I'm really turned off by the purple backspacer. I think it makes the knife girly looking

940-2: I like how this knife looks super stealth and rugged. I like the green barrel spacers more than the purple backspacer. I like the G10 but I love the feeling of the aluminum more.

Overall I love the rugged look of the 940-2 more but like the feeling and heft of the plain 940 more. So I can't decide and need your opinion.

PS. I'm not interested in the 940-1. I had that knife already and sold it off.

Remove the purple backspace and sand off the anodizing? Then you can try blackening it with aluma-black. If that works well enough you could do the same to the scales.

If you prefer aluminium no doubt you shall go for the 940

I had a 943 and a 940-1 both were great
For a worn look definitively aluminium is the way to go

By the way the 943 with the clip point is a great EDC

If you like the heft and feel of the aluminium more, that's what you're going to reach for if if you have to make a split decision between these 2. I vastly prefer the solid feeling of the 940 as well. I have my s90v 940 in black alu scales, purple backspacer and purple screws atm. Hate the cf scales too. Goes great with the stonewash. On a satin 940 the green and pink fade over time, it's going to look great.

And I like the sound of the deployment in the alu scales more.

Edit: do yourself a favor and check out the 943 too. Above poster is correct, I've carried it as a primary daily edc for years.

I am the opposite. I had a 940, and the fragility of the anodized aluminum green finish turned me off. I like to keep things in as good condition as I am able, within reason, and much prefer the G-10 of the 940-2, and the CF of the 940-1, both of which I still have. For me they are real keepers, and function and look great.

If you don't like the purple back spacers (I do) swap them out for a different color.

I can't decide either

I would personally vote for the 940. I've owned (and sold) both the 940 and 940-2. The G-10 on the 940-2 is extremely slick and lacks traction. Also, there are many articles/videos online on ways to change the colour of that purple backspacer.

940 reg for me.

The backspacer is actually titanium and easily anodized a different color.

Remove the backspace and put it in a container with a scoop of oxi clean. Add boiling water and it will almost instantly remove the purple oxidation. Do this in your sink because it tends to foam over. Also don’t use an aluminum container.

940-2.
The aluminum scales of the 940 can get almost painfully cold in the winter.
I don’t have that problem with the -1 version.

If I were you, I would swap the backspacers and sell the 940-2.

I own a 940-2. At the time I wasn’t interested in the patina the aluminum will develop over time.

A few year later and now I regret not getting the 940. At this point, another set of G-10 scales is kinda boring.
