So.....I think I scored pretty good today. Found a local collector who was willing to part with a Shadow II (7" blade). Both knife and sheath are marked 'MADE IN SOUTH AFRICA' on the right side and has the 'CR' mark on the left side followed by '101'. This is my first Reeve knife and I'm trying to catch up as fast as I can. Sorry I'm late for class. I have some questions, so I'm gonna raise my hand.

1. When and why were these knives discontinued?
2. When was this particular knife made?
3. Is the hexagonal butt proper for this knife?

If anyone can help out, I'd be most grateful.

Your knife was made prior to 1986 in South Africa before Chris Reeve Knives moved to the United States and set up shop in Boise, Idaho. If you call CRK and give them the serial number they may be able to let you know exactly what day and year. The Hex butt cap is correct for that year. I believe that that model of knife was discontinued when they moved to Boise but don't quote me on that.

Thanks for the quick reply! Just did some diggin' with the ol' 'Search' function and found out that they did quit this model after moving to the U.S.. They started marking them 'Made In' around April of '87, so that narrows it down to a two-year span. I think I'll shoo them and email and see if they can come up with a date for me. Also, you're right about the hex cap being proper. I think this one might be a keeper!

I'm not into CRK fixed blades, but you have made an excellent find and it's definitely a keeper !

Thanks, Gig, I think you're right! Silenthunter, it's not leavin' the sock drawer till I know the whole story. She may be with me for a looooong time.

Just be careful in an early morning stupor. . . .trying to slip a CRK on your foot can be painful ! :D

Hmmmm....maybe I should reconsider as that's where I keep my big Chappel too!:D
Don't think I'll be telling my insurance company 'bout that.

Thanks! I found that one last night. Good info in there straight from the horse's mouth.
