I have a buddy who is in the marines, and before he is deployed he asked me what knife he should buy. He said price isnt an issue just wants something bad to tha bone. He wants it to be around 4.5- 6 inches and no preference on steel. Does not want a cheese ball Ka-bar or anything like that.
I mentioned:
Barksriver bravo 1 - A2 and the SS
Ratcutlery RC5 sere and the RC6
Busse skinny ash, and the Badger attack E
Fehrman Last chance
All have the same kind of warranty, but the prices are spread.
I myself have a RC4 and think the world of rat, but I know all of these have some strong fan following. Give me why's and why nots on these knives. Open for new ideas and suggestions.

I only have experience with RAT out of that bunch. They would get my vote.

Have you looked at Ranger knives? The RD6 might be a good choice.

He may not need the roughest toughest knife around to tear up the countryside and he probably won't end up happy with anything too long or too heavy since the knife will be secondary to most everything else that he HAS to carry. Also, knives get lost and expensive knives are hard to replace.

That makes the RAT Cutlery choices look really good, strong without being massive (forget the RC-5). The RC-6 might be longer than he needs but that still leaves the RC-4.

If you want an upscale alternative, go to the Bark River Bravo-1 or look at Ranger Knives.

If he likes a big knife, take a good look at the Ka-Bar Becker line. They all have the same excellent Becker handle with the Crewman, BK-7, and BK-9 being progressively larger.

(( Make sure he takes a good multitool. ))

Ive said all this about the size and weight. thats why I bought a RC4. He wants the best though, money no issue.

im looking at a direware requiem right now, six inches and its pretty bad. also comes in cpm-3v

If price is no object then he can get a Busse HG-55 that they are currently selling on their website for $255.

I would also recommend a RAT, Bark River Bravo 1, or a Fallkniven A1.

i just got the skinny ash...it's pretty big! the rat 5 looks like a beast, cools sheath and great company...

how about something a little smaller like a scrap yard yard keeper? SS4? i like res c myself

money not an option? Then I would say go custom or ask some of the guys here that make their own knives to make one for you buddy.

God be with him.

Seeing as he is unlikely to need the knife to defend himself a Ka Bar or Glock field knife would do the job at $30 a pop, if in the unlikely scenario he needed to use the knife in self defense either one will upset an opponents feelings as much as a more expensive knife.
