Well, I've caught the "custom bug"! After years of production knives, I've acquired my first custom - a Larry Chew Cujo. It's absolutely beautiful! If I could only post a pic...

Well, as all of you know, this "sickness" only gets worse, and as I post this I'm already eyeing and saving my pennies for my second custom. I am, however, at an impasse. I've narrowed it down to two (arguably the two most popular customs on this forum), and can't decide which to get (first that is):

The Kit Carson Model 4 or the Terzuola ATCF.

There's no doubt that someday I'll own both, but due to financial constraints, this next piece will be my last for a LONG, LONG, LONG time...

I've read all of the posts on the two knives, but I haven't seen posts mentioning both in the same thread. Any opinions would be greatly appreciated. Thanks in advance!

Squid

p.s. - Les, please chime in if you're out there - chances are, I'll be buying it from you!!!

I've told myself that one a lot. I doubt you will find anyone willing to say that one of these great makers is better than the other. They each have their own style, and both make wonderful knives. Les will probably tell you the same thing, Buy what you like. I can't see how you would go wrong with knives from either of these two makers.

Whenever I find a new toy I have to have, I usually find a way to scrape up the cash. Unfortunately, my interestes are many, and I just can't afford to keep up with all of them!

However, the aforementioned "financial constraints" are legit. I just bought a home, a "fixer upper", and boy does it need some "fixing"!!!

What Para said or flip a coin.

Call and chat with the makers. With all things knife-wise being equal, buying from a maker you consider to be your friend is amongst the most rewarding of all custom knife experiences.

Squid,

Para and Gus are correct. Both knives are equally sought after, both makers are leaders in the tactical folder market.

Kit's main advantage over Bob is not style or worksmanship, it is that he will work any steel.

I am hoping to help Bob down this path. I already have him doing a Vanguard knife in 440V.

I will tell you that you will probably be able to get the Terzuloa first.

You won't be dissapponinted with either, and will end up getting the other (probably quicker than you thought).

Let me know if you have any other questions concerning the two.

Buy them both.
Eventually you will want them both.

Take it from someone who has been down this road many times....

I like the Carson M-16 the best of Kits knives, and The ATCF is Bobs best in my book.

See!! I knew it!! It is caused by a bug!! And I mean a BIG BUG! ! !

That's what I keep tellin' my wife! "But honey, it's caused by a bug bite!"

Squid.....there is only one way to decide. Buy both and then report the results to the masses!

Looks like you got yourself a right big decision. Happens to everybody who collects custom knives one time or other. Like what the other folks said, can't go wrong with either. These two gentlemen are among the top makers in the business for a simple reason: they make great knives.

Personally, I prefer the Carson model 4 for the curvier handle (i like curved handles). Having said that, if Bob handed me a ATCF to play with, I'm sure he could convince me otherwise

Buy any one. Then save up for the other.

Interestingly, my mission in life is to get one of each of these knives:
- Carson Model 4
- Terzoula ATCF
- Crawford Point Guard

Glad we have similar tastes

isn't there a saying: "pay much now, or mare later..."
there is some truth in those words.
