Hey all,

New to the forum here and I love it so far. I'm pretty much a novice collector....got a few Spyderco's, Cold Steels, Gerbers and other junk. I am looking for a new all around user. I won't be chopping, digging or otherwise abusing my new knife. I have an SRK, but have been looking at the Ranger RD6 or 7, and the Ontario RAT7. I just sold a Becker Crewman because I didn't really like the grip. Would I be gaining anything over the SRK with the Ranger or Rat? How about any of the KA-BAR's? Or the Cold Steel Recon Scout? I had a Trailmaster at one time but it was too damn long for my taste. Help a newbie out!! Thanks!

I have a Ranger RD6. I use it for cleaning up bushes and odds and ends around the house. And when my Rottweiler starts barking at the door at night, I grab the RD6 and a Surefire! Makes my 5' 9" frame stand at least 6" taller! That was a joke. But anyways....

Its a beast. And I love the micarta handles. I've never handled an SRK, but I believe it has that crazy polymer handle right? From what I understand about SRKs, they are great knives despite the bad rep that Lynn Thompson gets on these forums. One thing that you will get from the RD6 is Justin's excellent customer service. If something is wrong, you can always send it back to him and get it fixed.

Worth every bit of money that I paid for it.

I've been eyeing the Ontario RAT-5 as well, but can't seem to get away from the RD6.

I have a RAT 7 and I love it, However Ranger knives have a darn good standing and take a heck of alot of abuse, I do believe they are thicker too. I know you probably cannot get to hold both before you but but I'd say RD6 or 7, I like the 7 but thats a preference thing.
