I need your input guys, I'm trying to decide what to get for my first spyderco. I'm trying to decide between a delica and a calypso jr. help!
Are there any other knives I should also consider? BTW: I've got a price range up to $50. Thanks in advance!

Kryosphinx,

Of the two knives you mentioned, I would pick the Calypso Jr. I have one of the older models with black FRN and VG-10 steel, and it is easily one of the sharper knives I own -- it's not even close. Plus, the Calypso Jr. is a limited edition while the Delica is not.

Some other entry-level Spyderco knives you might consider: Native (great stout knife for the money), Dragonfly (nice, people-friendly knife for EDC), Meerkat (neat knife, a bit on the heavy side), and the Spur (just a little over $50). Of these knives, I have owned them all except for the Spur. Of all of these knives, I would still recommend the Calypso Jr. :), followed by a Native.

Good luck...you can't go wrong with any of these :)

Calypso Jr. or Navigator. I alternate between both as my daily carry because of the small size, light weight, and good cutting edge and handle ergo.

Caly Jr. You won't regret it.

...And as Starfish pointed out, Delicas aren't exactly uncommon, whereas supplies of the Calypso Jr are dwindling fast.

Calypso Jr is a great knife, but the Delica is a classic. To be honest, you can't go wrong with either. Chances are, you'll own one of each within a short time... ;)

Be aware that the Delica is tip-up carry and the Caly Jr is tip-down.

NEWBIE TRANSLATION: On the Delica the clip attaches at the butt end. On the Caly Jr the clip attaches at the pivot end.

Just in case you have a preference. To some of us it matters. To some of us it really, REALLY matters. ;)

Get the Gray Calypso Jr. If you need a contact for a good price on one then just e-mail me and I will hook you up with a guy I know who has about 5 of them left. They come in VG-10 and the handles are the best looking FRN handles I have ever seen out of the Great Spyder Factory. :) Oh welcome to the Forum by the way :)

Another vote for the Calypso Jr. I just received this knife as MY first and I love it.

Got my Calypso, Jr. off the Spyderco site...dunno if they still have it available, but it was $34.95 and free shipping.

Just checked the Spyderco website and they're still in stock. Hurry!!
