I have been trying like hell to take and post a picture of what I got in my grab bag... Here's the problem. Everything comes back with a red hue. I realized that most of my problem is coming from my backdrops and light source, so I changed that and have been able to get the CS stuff just fine.

Where it becomes tricky, is I would really like to do justice to the metallic dark green finish on one of the blades I received and it seems no matter what I try, I just can't seem to get it to show up as anything other than "dark".

Any tips? Not that it really matters, but I'm using a Nikon D7500 with a variety of lenses from 35 & 50mm f1.8 to kit lenses, as wells as my iPhone's camera.

Any tips would be considered greatly appreciated. Thanks all. Hope you had a great holiday season.

The only pictures that I have seen where the green/blue/bronze finishes actually look like they do in person were taken outside on a sunny day. Hope your holidays were equally great.

Try your phone on the lowest resolution. Pics come out fine. Here is one from my S9.

A basic membership I believe let's you post away also from Phone. Select photo and click on 10 pictures to post.

I've tried numerous times to capture those metallic hues… it's dang near impossible. Like ScoMa said, try it outside on a bright sunny day. That's the only time I've come close to succeeding.

Check out some of the pics in the Color Combination Vault. The examples might give you a better idea of how to capture the picture you’re thinking of.

All of the Forest Green pics appear more dark than green. Midnight Blue and Desert Bronze have some that appear dark, and some that are bright and shiny. Hammered Silver is the shiniest of all, so that’s practically cheating.

I still think sixplymaple sixplymaple should get some credit (mad props!) for all his work putting that thread together and it oughta be stickied. Super helpful thread :thumbsup:
I appreciate the kind words. At first it was just an idea for my own records, but I figured it would be better as a BF thread. I'm just happy the rest of you hogs find it as useful as I do!

That would be cool if it was a sticky thread, but it's all good. @JohnTheTexican 's factory offerings thread should also be sticky.

You may need to make up a rudimentary light box and experiment with exposures, your D7500 is a most capable camera to do this with. The problem outdoors is you have little control over changes in the light, outdoors I much prefer a nice overcast day to diffuse the light for me. Very different parts of a knife will photograph very differently. To get a stabilised wood (or other material) handle pic done well you may end up with the polished blade being over exposed for example.

Let me know when you’re ready to send that custom shop back to the states, Andy.

The difficulties with taking a pic of the current Forest Green coating is capturing the "shimmer". We've got binocular vision and processing different reflections from different parts of the coating, which gives it the distinct shimmer. That's very hard to recreate or capture on a single-lens camera.

This was my best attempt at capturing the same shimmer with the Midnight Blue coating.

Too rich for me right now, but I will keep it in mind.
At first glance, I thought it was an ASH, too.

Thanks for all the advice everyone. My phone will take great pictures of jewelry and knife finishes, almost anyone's will in the right light because the sensor is flat.

I will spend some time in sixplymaple sixplymaple 's thread and read it. My browser is being a whining little bitch right now and won't load it properly. But I seem to have gotten the post processing done properly.

Andy, thanks for the lightbox suggestion, seems you may be one of the few photographers that was in this chain. (No offense to anyone else if you are.)

My biggest problem with the original images is that I took them on a pink and white blanket and didn't realize that the soft light area I had created was in a room with walls that have a pink/red hue to them. Personally I can't see colors in pain like most people can. To me a white wall, is a white wall. But as we all know, there are 100 different whites available from every painting company.

Here's one of the images I used for the grab bag post after feeling like I got it right.

ScoMa you've already seen the other pics, opinions? Think they turned out well? The FBM is that metallic green, the Rat Black.

I think you did well with these pics. The colors definitely come through. I like how the lighting shows two shades of the Forest Green.

Thanks for chiming in. Problem is the pics look awesome on my stupid camera LCD, then totally different on my phone LCD, then totally different on my PC. So from camera to post, they change about 5 times. LOL. I appreciate it.
