HELP!! Anyone want to re-grind my knife?

I let a friend borrow my favorite fixed blade for a long camping trip in the smokies. He couldn't get the convex grind sharp, so he put a 20degree bevel on it with a stone. I can't get the new bevel as sharp as I want it, so I was wondering if the hive mind could recomend a person to re-grind it for me. I can't live without it, so price doesn't really matter. It is a 4 inch recurve made from 1/4 inch 5160. I will post pictures of you tell me it will help. Thanks!!

What type of grind do you want? I'd contact Richard J. here on the forums for any sharpening work you need.

I'd love to see picture of the knife if you don't mind posting them. :)

I will post them as soon as I have te MacBook in hand!! It's a keeper for sure. The balance is right at your index finger!! I would like it to be like I was before it was messed up. It has a varied convex grind already, but my friend put a flat bevel on it. Now it doesn't get wicked sharp anymore. Can this Richard J make the flat bevel go away? I would do it myself on my belt sander, but I am not that confident yet.

requested pictures. First one is how it looked new.

I would be super ticked if I lent a "friend" my knife and he ruined the edge like that!

Course, I would just fix it, because I have done many of my blades by hand, and others on my 1x30 belt grinder.

I wasn't too happy... But things happen. If I didn't love this one so much, I would do it myself. I would hate to risk further damage by my inexperienced hands. It may take some serious grinding to get the bevel off!!

Very nice knife!

I am guessing, your friend sharpened with an EdgePro, somehow the bevel along the tip look familiar to my knives tips when I was using EP while back. Yup, due to my darn lazy over-reached strokes and not accounted for blade thickness near the tip.

Sharpness has very little to do with V or convex, just the apex thickness. Something else is at play, perhaps sharpen with sharpie trick.

I have done everything I can think of. It had a pretty thick edge before, but it worked with it being convex. The short stubby little bevel seams to just not get as sharp. The tip looks like that because I started to sharpen it on a belt sander, but just decided to go with a re-grind.

I take my previous statement back. It gets shaving sharp, but it doesn't cut as well. The edge is pretty thick, and the V just isn't working with that.

Thanks so much for the suggestion. I am sending the email now. You guys are the best!!

Don't cut yourself with it when it comes back from Richard. It will be freaking SHARP!!!:D

It should be here Monday. Richard is such a nice guy and an open vault of information. He sent me a few pictures, and it looks great.

I'm betting that you will have a new appreciation for your knife. Richard's edges are the best "working" edges that I've ever worked with.

i always went by this saying and u should too "the quickest way to loss a friend is to lend him a knife"

Richard J definately Knows how to put on a great edge, I've lost some blood from his edge's thats for sure, and hes a hell of a good guy who doesn't mind sharing some of his knowledge:thumbup: I 've sent him everything form a Sebenza to a Buck119 and all were wicked sharp

Any updates? I'd love to see how it came out.
