I was just asked by a co-worker to assist him in identifying a knife that his section had been asked to examine. He is a Firearms Examiner for our police department but has limited knowledge of knives. I would be more than happy to e-mail someone a copy of photo he sent me as I am unable to upload photos. Here is a description of the knife. It is a two bladed knife, with identical blades . Both blades pivot on the same pin from opposite sides of the handle. It is made to look like damascus, but, is marked China and 440. The blades are approximately 3" long and hawkbill or kerambit shaped with rough, serrations/teeth cut into the spine of the blades. The handle is metal with a brownish colored insert. The questions he would like answered are manufacturer and model, approximate date or date range of manufacture, name for this type/style of knife and the name for the blade shape. Thank everyone in advance for your assistance with this. Please e-mail me at det_rosgen@hotmail.com if you would post the photo.

the blades are hawkbills, and they appear to be liner locks.

it is often very difficult to pinpoint manufacturer for the "made in china" knives.

as far as i can tell, it serves no practical purpose. as a utility knife with only one blade exposed, the "serrations" on the other blade would prohibit any type of use by diggin into your palm.

with both blades exposed, because of the angle of each in reference to each other, it is useless as a double edged knife.

its a gimmick, but is easily arguable as a "weapon only" type knife.

It looks like the typical "gas station" junk knife. I have however seen similar design somewhere before. I just flipped through some catalogs and was unable to locate it though. You might try http://www.budk.com they sell an aweful lot of these sort or knife.

Be patient and good luck.

Ditto. There are probably a dozen places in any mid sized town you could get a knife just like that for $5.

As for the maker, its probably made in the same novelty factory that makes everything from crappy knives to Callaway knock offs under a hundred different brand names. There are thousands of Chinese factory exactly like that that make anything and everything under one roof depending on whats selling at the moment.

Here it is in the 2007 Knifecenter catalog, as has been said, it is a "junk" knife so no manufacturer is listed. (I knew I had seen it before.)
