the "black oxide coating" on the blade of my knife scratched off like paint. this made me feel terrible because i realy like Hk and love my usp and believe in their no compromise stuff. but then the coating just scratched off like paint, i can chip it off with my nail.HELP

I would shoot an e-mail to benchmade, to me it sounds like oil or dirt was left on the blade when it was coated, and the coating flaked of when light pressure was applied. Pics are good too.

it was a gift for edc for my girl friend and shes one of those dont make waves we'll just deal with it people ya know? she told me just to try and fix it. i work with metal as a hobby and that includes making knives ( or tryingl lol). so i scratched the rest of it off and blued the blade with blueing solution. bad move? did i void the warranty?

You blued it in the 16 minutes between your two posts?

You should have waited and contacted Benchmade IMO, but now that you've blued the blade, it's likely the warranty is voided, not that it matters anymore.

lol no i did it before i posted anything here. i was just wondering if i could save it

I'd bet benchmade will take it about as well as your stainless steel blade took the bluing. Joe

I think benchmade would have liked to know what happened, meaning you should have left the coating on and sent it in, if you like the blueing there is no problem. As long as you did not remove the blade from the handle and take apart the pivot they should be cool about the warranty, but they draw the line there.
