I don't know what I should do. I stripped one on the bolts and I broke a torx driver. I can't get these things out. I specifically got this to rehandle it. I don't know if I can get the scales off now. Did I already void the warranty? Any suggestions?

Thank you so much!

Sounds like there may be Loctite on there. Soak the handle in some very hot water for a few minutes and see if that helps loosen it up.

Thanks Rycen. Could it really be that easy? I'll give it a try. Also, I just realized I maybe should have posted this in the tinkering and embellishment and whatnot fourm. Please move it if appropriate. Thank you.

Ya, those screws are TIGHT!! I need to get around to trying again but I think the next step will be heating with a soldering iron. After that it's the 4.5" angle grinder...

NOBODY can resist the angle grinder!!! :D

have fun,
tom

If you broke a Torx driver on the Skyline screws, then your tools are very, very low quality. Low quality tools are a common cause of stripping these kinds of screws. Aside from heating up the thread lock on the screws, getting the appropriate, high-quality tools is something you should be doing.

If you're going to be modifying a knife, then you should be investing in better tools. Again, if Kershaw's screws are breaking your drivers...then there's a problem worth addressing.

Had to get a set of US made Torx. Broke the two other sets I tried and didn't cost very much more.

Are the scales removeable? I got a 1080 Skinner, tried to remove the torx screws from one side and couldn't do it. Tried the other side and they did come out, but the scales still would not come off. It's like they were glued and screwed. I don't consider this bad, because I had a fixed blade knife with screw-on scales and there was major rust build up under the scales when I got around to checking. Better to have the scales glued on so there's no chance for water/blood to get under the scales in the first place.

I agree with all of this... But, the skyline fixed blade does indeed have really, really tight screws. I nearly stripped a screw on one. My mac torx set cost around $250 so I know its not because of tool quality.
