EDIT: Leaning toward the autumn sunset non-lock, but certainly open to sugestions.

Hello,

I'm having great difficulty choosing which configuration CS Trapper I'd like to purchase, and would greatly appreciate any feedback from those in the know. The first and primary issue comes down to handle composition: The Camel Bone really jumped out as being the most "gentlemanly" of the bunch, and I was more or less set on that choice. Then I saw some beautiful Sunset Bone images on this site and started to reconsider. I'm of course not dead set on either of these two, and there might be a better choice out there.

That aside, the second choice comes down to locking or non-locking. I really like the lines of the knife without the lock mechanism breaking up the handle, but on the other hand every knife I've owned since about age fifteen was locking. Swiss Army before that, which I believe is non-locking, and never an issue/injury there. I guess I just have a natural pause about a blade that length which isn't secured/locked, but since most of these I've seen are non-locking I'm assuming the lock vs. non is kind of a non-issue. I've read articles and threads on this and some people say (on the extreme end) non-lockers should be banned, while others are just fine with them.

Either way, thanks very much for your time and any feedback.

I don't think I have ever been cut because a knife did not have a lock. I have looked at that very knife for quite some time now and would love to have one also

Order in for an Autumn Sunset...appropriate, I suppose, given the time of year. With any luck it'll look something like this one:

The "Pinch" is very nice.but like you I prefer the smooth unbroken surface of a "Half Moon Trapper"........and here's something to look forward to among the knives that are coming out a Scarlet Kudu Toned Half Moon and White-Tailed Deer Half Moon Trapper ( the deer being part of Canal Street Cutlery's new Trophy Series ).

That's a nice one Pelikan. The Sunset bone below was my first Half Moon Trapper. I have that same pocket sheath but really prefer carrying it in the black pouch it comes with (if I carry it with a sheath). That leather sheath is fine and will do a good job in jeans but I wear slacks most of the time and it slides around too much for my liking. The satin pouch is a little grabby so the knife stays put a little better. Also, the pocket sheath would make the knife about 50% thicker and at least 3 times wider in your pocket. I'd use the pouch first and only get the sheath if you don't like the pouch. Ideally, I prefer having a smaller pocket sewn in my pocket where I can keep the knife sans sheath. My second choice would be a small pocket sheath made for the knife that doesn't give up any of its pocket friendly qualities.

I'd say Trand knows what he's talking about with a collection like that and couldn't agree more, though if you'd really like a pouch to carry the knife in AG sells a nice black leather one which is perfect in the pocket.
