Help choosing folder -(belt clip position)

I would like to know which folder do you recommend for a tactical folder. The main requirement is that the clip must be on the bottom of the pivot meaning that the knife would he upside-down when its clipped on your pocket. the reason is that its much faster and easier to grap and deploy the blade rather then having to flip it around. I was looking into the SOG line but I see that they have the clip the other way around so Im here wondering which folders have the clip the way I want it. I would mainly use the knife for simple tasks but I would like to have a tactical combat tanto style blade rather than an all purpose drop point style. my price range is up to $100 or so thanks

Sounds alot like an Emerson CQC7B to me. However, all the Emerson Folders fit your bill.

But also the Al Mar SERE and all Benchmade AXIS locks are what you describe (by the way, we call this "tip-up" carry)

If you're more-budget oriented, consider the Spyderco Native, Endura, and Delica, great knives, great price, tip-up.

Hope this helps.

I would go for an Emerson CQC7 B...The clip can be mounted on either end. It's a chisel ground tanto blade...sounds like this knife may be the one for you...

Get it with the 'wave'...I'm sure you'll like it as do most people who try it...

Yes, the Emerson CQC7B is a perfect knife that I am looking for. Thanks guys:D but are there any other similar knives I should look at?

Ah! I suggest the Al Mar SERE 2000 Operator. Every review I have looked at it has passed above and beyond. Its clip is on the opposite end for "discrete carry". Rides low in your pocket. The price range can be anywhere from 110 or so up to 150. You can find it easy on Dirtcheapknives for 113 or so. Heres the review, enjoy reading, I did!

Fireshaker,

you must be confused, the SERE Operator is the fixed blade version, the SERE 2000 is the folder of which you so highly speak.

It looks like you might be looking for a either a Cold Steel Tanto Voyager, or a Cold Steel Gunsite model.

The SERE2000 is a great knife, but it rides *so* low in the pocket it's actually a little slow to deploy. I think the low pocket carry was biased towards security, i.e. the knife not being pulled out of your pocket and lost while climbing through brush, as opposed to quick deployment. If quick deployment is a deciding factor, I don't think this is the knife for you.

Since you are looking for quick deployment, nothing beats any Emerson with the WAVE.
The CQC7 tanto w/wave
The SOCFK (found only at www.tacticaledge.com

might be your best choices.

They are a little more than your $100 desired limit, but you get what you pay for!!!

If you want to spend a lot more than that, check out the commander, or the mini commander
YOU WILL NOT BE SORRY!

I go with Dann on this one. Check out the Cold Steel Voyager Tanto series. Medium, large, and extra large are all within your budget. They are all tough knives. They are lockbacks, for extra safety and reliability. And they are double hollow ground, really sharp, and easier to use for utility than the Emerson chisel grind.

I own two Cold Steel Voyagers, and they’re great knives and well within your price range. I think you would be more than satisfied with one of those. They are a good place to start while you refine your likes and dislikes.

That said, what is the “bid deal” about such super fast deployment? Granted an EDC knife shouldn’t be floating around down in the bottom of your pocket and require two hands to open. For the life of me though, I don’t understand what all the todo is with a knife that opens with blazing speed. The only thing I can think of is personal preference. Is there a real advantage to this that I am missing?

Under any and all emergency circumstances, you will do better knowing what is happening than you will reacting at blazing speed in the wrong direction.

Yes, if weapons are coming at you, you may not want to face them bare-handed. I like to carry a knife with a blade long enough to impress the simple-minded thug. But knife fights are a traditional way for both parties to donate blood.

So practicing only a fast draw is promising to get yourself in trouble.

Once you think through and learn the right moves, though, it doesn't hurt to have a reasonably fast, easy deployment. I would caution you not to take the Emerson Wave for granted. My Commander is an awesome knife. But sometimes, just sometimes, I get careless pulling it out of my pocket and it pops open when I didn't mean for it to!

The fast deployment, tip up carry, tactical blade is strictly my personal preference. Right now im leaning towards the Emerson line.

The Almar SERE 2000 or the Benchmade AFCK would be my picks. I have owned two Emerson's, the Commander and the CQC7 with wave. I much prefer the waved CQC7. I just do not like chisel ground knife blades, and that is the main reason I like the SERE and the AFCK.
