Hello all,

Im new here so apologies if I say anything stupid :) I have plenty of knowledge about kitchen knives but other than that I know nothing!

I need some help with a gift, a good friend wants me to help her choose a knife for her father and put a custom handle on it made out of antlers from his farm. I've made custom kitchen knife handles before so I'm sure I could figure that part out. I need help picking a blade. I'm located in Brisbane Australia.
My friend is not 100% sure as to what uses her father has for said knife. Just basic stuff maybe, skin dingoes, cut/skin kangaroos, stab pigs etc. just all rounder hunting knife.. The budget is $50 I understand that's not a lot. Is there anything decent for this price bearing in mind I'll be putting on a new handle.

You can't go wrong with a Becker, but under $50 may be tough... What blade length are you thinking? Coyleoutdoors has the bk15 under $50 right now on sale, that's a great option, I've never used it for skinning, but I'm sure it'd work just fine, it'd look sweet stripped with some antler handles! Otherwise, a bit smaller, but the bk 14/24 would be great too, and you can't beat the Beckers on value

The 50 USD mark is really though in my humble opinion. A Becker would be a nice option as suggested, especially since I don't like their handles and you're going to replace them anyway. BK17, BK16, BK15, BK14, BK13, BK11, ESEE Becker D'Eskabar or ESEE Izula would be the options I think... BK14 and lower are easy to find for less than 50 USD anyway and come without scales in the first place.
