I know you guys know your stuff so rather than play shoot and miss again, I am going to need some help. These are some of the things I am looking for.

* Folder (preferably assisted)
* Quality light weight material
* $150 price range
* blade- around 2.75-3.25 inch
* For everyday carry

Any advice / suggestion / direction would be much appreciated, thank you all.

BTW, i just got the CRKT pharaoh and i needles to say was not happy with it. It was big and heavy, I sold it already and i realize i may have to spend some money to get quality.

how about the kershaw r.a.m.? any idea how it opens? the description leaves me with the impression it opens like a crkt m16 , and the spyderco military is almost perfectttt, the blade length is just a little to big for me, do they have a smaller version.

Damn, I realize this is going to take a while to shop for. Can anyone help me better understand how steel is rated. I looked at a chart on a.g. russel and was just lost. What should I look for and what should I stay away from.

What kinds of use will you put this knife through. Some steels excel in edge retention, however it has been my experience that the higher the edge retention, the more likely it is to chip.

I will be using it for everyday pocket use, boxes, rope, so on...I wont be using this as my hunting knife. I think I am leaning towards the spyderco para military. It seems that spyderco is a well respected company on these forums. As to where i should purchase my knife, do u guys have any companies you really enjoy doing business with.

NewGraham seems to have consistently the best prices.

You probably couldn't have picked a better all around choice. S30v is considered by most to be the "best" steel in production right now. It has excellent edge retention and wear resistence, however I would be careful about running your edge into hard items. S30v has some tendencies toward chipping. You probable won't notice as long as you don't use you edge as a prybar and don't try skinning electrical wire and such.

Nice, I purchased the para tonight from newgraham I cant wait to get it. Hopefully I can sell my CRKT ultima to a buddy, seeing as how i have never used it. Then I can get another higher quality knife. Ever see that surefire EW04 delta, it looks so damn nice I wish I had the money.

I find it ironic that you will be looking for a higher quality knife than the Para. You have high standards.

I'm only kidding, although on a more serious note, you might want to look for a better paying job. You are going to need the extra money for your new hobby.

lol Nosetotail I knew this would happen. I have always been into my knives but I think this forum has gotten me hooked.

Spyderco Para military, all the way!
-Premium S30V steel
-G-10 handle
-Compression Lock
-Light wieght and durable and within your size limit

Thnks
Matt

For an assisted opener I here the Kershaw Mini Cyclone is a great knife in the size range.
Benchmade just came out with a 3in. AO but it will be a while before they hit the streets.
