Help Choosing Small Folder

Up until now I have not spent more than $50 on a folder, but I think it's time to treat myself to a little upgrade. The problem that I have is that I am not as familiar with all of the manufacturers and what they have to offer. I thought that this forum would be a good place to get opinions from the people who actually own and use these knives.

What I'm looking for is a small pocket folder with the following attributes.

- 3 to 3.5 inches closed (Maybe 4 in. if this is too exclusive)
- 1/4 inch thick (or less)
- Plain edge
- Higher quality blade steel (bg-42, VG-10, ATS-34,...etc.)
- Solid feeling handle material (Micarta, Stainless Steel, G10,...none of that platic lightweight stuff...just can't bear the feel of it)
- under $150 (I do have my limits!)

If anyone cares to share their opinions on knives that they have experience with, which fit this description, I would appreciate it.

Look at knives from Spyderco, Benchmade, and Kershaw. I think the most solid knives meeting all of your criteria would be a Spyderco Starmate, Wegner, or Military.

Go to www.knifecenter.com and have a look.

Happy hunting!

Both I am going to rk'mnd, I have and have carried...

Spyderco Native in all stainless...

Benchmade Mini-Stryker with G10 handles

Both in the $$$ range...
Both DAMN good knives!!!

Only thing with Spydies though...can't adjust them if they come lose in time, but Sal's warranty is first class, all the way!

The BM705S Mini-Axis lock is a great, great, great little pocket folder. A very versatile blade design, comfortable to work with, and a great lock to boot. Its blade is 2.9 inches. The blade's gonna be a little easier to sharpen than that of the BM905 Mini-Stryker, a great pocketable folder in it's own right.

Welcome to the forums, steve. I recommend the Microtech miniSOCOM. Fantastic smaller knife. 154CM blade, anodized aluminum handle, solid lock. Mike Kyle at M&M Tactical had some left with colored handles so you wouldn't have to go with basic black.

I will have to second the vote for a Spyderco Stainless Native II. I have one (with the 40% serrated blade), and I really can't imagine a "better" knife.
