I have chipped the belly of my bk2 while batoning kindling. i thought it was a good opportunity to continue convexing the edge of my bk2. However, I've reached a point where the belly is hair popping but the straight part of the blade (not sure what to call this) is significantly less sharp. Considering I use this knife mostly for processing wood, having a steeper bevel on the belly for more durable chopping, and a shallower bevel on the flat for carving seems preferable. As i mentioned earlier, the current grind opposes this and I was hoping to get some input about what i may be doing wrong in sharpening. I'm using sandpaper and a leather strop

My best suggestion is just to make sure you are keeping the same angle when you are making passes in that section of the blade. Also it appears that you are making the convex quite more acute towards the back of the blade, thus you are going to be removing quite a bit more metal. I would imagine that it naturally it would take some more time on the sandpaper to get this part to the angle you are looking for. So the only problem is you might just need to stick with it longer. How is that dogfish head IPA by the way? I've thought of picking some of it up but haven't tried it yet.

if you want some help convexing your knife, i'll be glad to give you a call if you send me your number and give you some tips over the phone. its easier for me to tell you over the phone rather than type it out. rje196021@gmail.com

I continued working on it last night and its coming along. placing more emphasis further back and is starting to cut paper at 220 grit. think i just need to keep at it. wish i had a belt sander. dogfish is a good treat every now and then, little overpriced but great tasting.
