So anyway, I've been carrying a SAK Soldier supplemented by a Stanley 99E for longer than I care to remember. My job requires a lot of opening/tearing down cardboard boxes, cutting plastic ties, etc. I'd like to get something new and I need to justify the purchase to myself so here are the requirements:

1-Locking, one-hand opening and closing, since I'll be operating this thing while standing on a 4-ft-high stack of beer cartons sitting on rollers and grabbing a shelf for balance with my free hand. (Stupid, I know).

2-Plain edge. (Personal preference).

3-NO liner locks or derivatives. (Bad, bad experience).

4-Reasonable price. I'll gladly pay what the tool is worth but not extra for fancy name/fancy steel. (I'm buying this on a convenience store clerk's wages).

5-Not really a requirement but I'd prefer something that's not really tacticool/mall ninja-looking.

Anyone have any suggestions?

Spyderco Endura. Great performance, ergos and steel. It's easy to open and close one-handed, and is not too expensive. I would recommend the serrated version for the tasks you outline but the plain edge one will perform excellently.
