Need help with a problem. I came across a Protech "Brend" Satin TR-3 that has some pretty deep scratches in the blade. They are deep enough to stop my fingernail if I drag it across them. It also needs a new edge. Problem is I can't return it to Protech (auto) and I want to try to preserve the Brend Satin look as close as possible. Any suggestions???????????

Satin finish is the easiest to restore, fortunately. Scotchbrite is usually the easiest way, but if you want to match the original exactly and you can't find the right grade of Scotchbrite to do that you might have to resort to silicon carbide paper on a sanding block.

It takes a little care to avoid rounding and blurring distinct grind lines, but other than that it's pretty easy. If you've never done it before try it on a junk knife first for practice, or on any scrap steel you happen to have around.
