Found this little beauty today. It says True Temper Flint Edge Kelly Works. Above all this it has a big 3 and a small 3 next to it. It weighs 2lbs 9 oz.
Made after 1930. Does it have ridges inside the eye?
Are you sure it weights 2 lbs 9oz? There is a lot of steel missing(3lbs 12oz). Badly worn toe does not explain the weight discrepancy, unless it used to be double bit or Pulaski.

Top down picture of the eye would be very helpful.

Yes the eye has ridges. Weighed on 2 scales so 2 lbs 9 oz is correct. I'll try to get another pic up later.

I was thinking the two 3's might mean 3 lbs 3oz for the original weight?

I also recently picked up a true temper flint edge but lacking the 'kelly works' stamp. Weighs 1.6# according to the bathroom scale, no other markings I could discern and no ridges inside the eye. Tried searching on here a bit but didn't turn up anything definitive of when it was produced or an explanation of the lack of Kelly stamp.

Thanks in advance for any info.

Going by the shape of the eye it looks like it used to be Pulaski axe.

The eye ridges date this axe post 1959 https://patents.google.com/patent/US3090653

An object of the present invention is to effectively secure handles to tools of the type referred to which is characterized by a firm union between the head and the handle so that danger of slippage of the head from the handle will be eliminated.-

Another object of the invention is to provide improved means for retaining wedges which may be driven into the end of a handle Within the said handle.

Still a further object of the invention is to provide improved means for providing an integral bond between the said wedges and the handle of the tool.

Another object of the invention is to provide improved means for securing the outer walls of the handle and the head of the tool together.

A still further object of the invention is to reinforce the attachment of the head and the handle at portions subject to the greatest torque or twisting force when the tool is in use.

First digit stands for pounds, second for number of the quarters of a pound.
for example 2 2 = 2lbs 8oz, 4 1= 4lbs 4oz.
There are 3 types of axes that use this kind of eye: Double Bit, Pulaski, and Undercutter patterns.
